I cannot believe these are not available here, I'm evidently looking in the wrong place.

 

I need some coach screws for a picnic set I'm building (there will be pictures), preferably black / japanned but stainless or galvanized would be OK.

 

This sort of thing, 5mm dia. 75mm long (roughly).

 

 

Any bright ideas?

 

 

Do you have a hardware house in your area, as they have huge collections of these thing you won't find elsewhere.

Yes, most of the hardware houses have it. In black and galvanized and different long, but i have seen only in 8 mm dia.

Yup, the local Mystery (hardware) Shop had them, showed them a photo and after some head scratching was lead "out back" down some very narrow aisles.

 

Galvanized coach screws in assorted lengths, all about 8mm dia (as noted by leyali), sold by the kg! A whole 90 Baht a kilo, got 2 kg of 4" ones, turned out to be 54 screws, so about 3.3 Baht each.

 

Picnic table is well under way :)

 

^^ don't forget the washers otherwise you cannot tighten up.

 

wood is shrinking at such a rate now that i am having to re tighten all my coach screws and bolts every month....a nuisance on every stair tread I can tell you.

Indeed, a large bag (1 kg?) of washers (no, I'm not going to count them) was another 90 Baht.

 

Maybe I should start calling this place "The 90 Baht Shop" :)
