This past Sunday coming back in the lovely Imm Officer was busy with her smart phone between each person (one reason her line was moving at half the pace of the guy next to her). When I got to the counter I put my passport down, she was still looking at her phone. Compare this to HK, where I just got e-Channel approved, and I'm in and out in less than 1 minute. Thailand needs to come up with an easy-pass system for those on long term approved visas. There is no need to check for overstay and other nonsense for these people. Usually, I have no problems and can use the first class lounge on the way out. Coming back in you sometimes have to wait a bit at the priority lane but not usually more than 10 or 15 minutes. Basically, Suvarnabhumi is getting too busy now for the volume of traffic. In addition the airport is badly organised and you have a majority of typical very lazy Thai staff. It is only going to get worse. Having said that Tokyo Narita can be bad sometimes for delays getting both in and out which is surprising. I've been there before, late at night, when they had to be prodded awake to deal with an influx of passengers from several flights. They had at least one wandering up and down the lines, yet managed to let travellers reach a desk, only for them to be sent to the back of another queue because the lines of segregation weren't clearly distinguishable. The advantage of business class is that you get off first [well after first class] and most of those in there tend to be slowish walkers. I'm quite nippy and get to fast track way ahead of my fellow travellers. Never had to wait behind more than 2 people and only that number once. Tried to go through last Friday night with wife bit like you say it is only machines, so had to queue for 45 minutes. From arrival at check in to getting through immigration took about 1 1/2 hours. I did do a fair bit of world travel between late 60's and late 70's and never had a passport but that's a different story. How do 'you' manage to leave Thailand without going to the Immigration Services counters/booths? I'm sure a lot of guys on overstay would love to know.
