ivan m Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 Blue Canyon Golf Club Phuket have just informed members that annual fees will increase from 25k to 70k and the transfer fee for memberships will rise from 140k to 250k. Members are concerned that these measures will severely reduce the value of their investment with some paying over 1 million baht for membership. Management have not disclosed how the extra income will be spent and the lack of transparency is worrying. Has anyone had any direct contact with the management and if so what are their plans other than to increase substantially the cost for members to play?

Psimbo Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 I was sat next to someone getting text after text over this on Friday night. I suspect it is due to the change of ownership and the fact that there were firesale memberships happening. As I don't play golf it doesn't affect me though. I did live there for a bit though!

madmitch Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 Golf club membership should not be looked upon as an investment.
robertthebruce Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 Sounds a good reason to change your Hobby...
aussieinphuket Posted March 12, 2017 Posted March 12, 2017 I have been a member for more then 10 years and during this time we have never seen an increase in fees so they are well over due to maintain 2 courses.. i am not standing up for BC here but some of my personal comments ... 1. the management at BC never communicate with members - even with the above events now there are more then 100 or so members who have sent emails asking for explanations but nil replies to anyway. their idea is called THE EMU reply : put head into sand and hope everything will nicely go away ... typically thai... 2. most members did expect an increase but maybe not to 70k a year. most feel were thinking a doubling in fees to 50k. but unlike most other clubs who will publish an expense report outlining why the increase and what will be done with the money such as upgrading the members Mens and Ladies locker rooms which are disgusting or where they will spend the additional funds it looks plainly like a CASH GRAB ... 3. the other annoying factor is now they have introduced compulsory usage of buggies on the Lakes course700 thb for anyway playing whereas on the Canyon course it is optional for members , this should also be optional for members on the Lakes course and yes charge guests and visitors. rumour has it they have purchased/ordered 300 new buggies and they have to be paid for ....... ? nothing appearing sofar ... still using the run down buggies and every often the tires exploding, this must be a hazard to players using such dilapidated equipment... and there are Warning Stickers on each buggy saying players are responsible for the damage though its the caddies that drive them ... 4. there still has never been an announcement in regard to who are the actual owners of the club, their is a thai gentleman named but then there is an overseas investment company who's name seems to come up all the time ... then all the innuendo's about what the intention is for the club i.e. LAKES COURSE used for a development for condos and villas. they still haven't even sold and or fully completed all the current condos that a re their on the golf course some are still plainly empty shells... 5. currently there is an OBJECTORS GROUP being lead by some thai members and their lawyers in conjunction with some overseas and local western members how successful this will be time will tell.. about 300-400 have signed up for this ... 6. Members have been told to pay by 3pm on 22nd March 2017 otherwise failing to do this their membership shall be suspended including playing rights and once they have decided to pay they will be charged a Re-Instatement fee of thb8,000 .... sofar i understand only 40 members have paid in full.... others prefer the wait and see option and others who are part of the Objectors Group will not pay.. which means they wont be allowed to play .... pity .. Unfortunately this club has been badly run for the past 10-15 years due to court battles for control between thai and singaporean interests .. The management seems to think that all Westerns are Rich and play golf and can afford the increases, yes some are well off but there are many members who don't have this money to pay for all the additional increases .... they live off pensions ... I wont go into the new membership transfer fee but it clearly statement in the members by laws that the fee is to be 10 pct of the new membership joining fee, so if they want thb250,000 now for transfer fee this values new memberships at thb2.5 million... the club cannot sell any new memberships as second sales are something like thb600,000 plus previous 2016 transfer fee thb140,000 (when new membership fee was thb1.4 mill to join..) clearly they have not taken this into account like most things ... anyway we can only keep on playing and hope so form of compromise can be found .... before it enters more court battles .. have a lovely day ...

NamKangMan Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 The land is worth a lot more with bricks and mortar on it than grass. This price hike maybe designed to send the club broke, thus setting the land up for sale to a developer.

Tigerdim Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 Happy to have found this thread. Was shocked to see the annual dues had doubled after already doubling the previous year. The mandatory carts on lakes course to supposedly speed up play is a joke. I ve been battling with the club myself to get answers. The committee has been suppose to get back to me for over 4 weeks now but nothing. The club secretary has been extremely rude every time I call.

They hiked the price up, because they can - simple.
AGAE Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 What is going on in this club? I really want to know before I pay the 70.000 bth that they have decided that we members should pay. Is the club going under? How can I come in contact with the objectors group? I don´t want to send so much money in to a black hole, especially as i live in Sweden and can´t play more than a couple of weeks every year.

With all that has been reported, are you seriously considering paying the 70k baht????
