He did not say that most Isaan girls work in bars...he said that most girls in bars are from Isaan...it's an important distinction, but may be true...most hockey players are white, but most whites do not play hockey...same logic...

i cannot speak as to the accuracy of his statement, but you seemed eager to jump on him, and he maybe speaking the truth...it's absolutely reasonable to make a generalization about a group of people, because a group consists of aggregate data...and you can tell a lot about the group...but you cannot make a statement about an individual...so please know that he wasn't trying to insult you...

He is speaking TVF slang as the real world eludes a good % on here. So read a thread become an expert, next similar thread spreads the Gospel according to TVF. Vicious circle as next guy believes what he wrote and spreads it more.

Actually freshly made chips cooked in decent oil are not all that bad. You put on your own salt, if you wish, and malt vinegar, of course.

Vinegar, gross!!

Even *if* chips were healthy and tasted nice, vinegar would make them even more unedible.

I think the OP has done the right thing by staying in Issan with his Issan wife, better for her to be close to friends and family and for them both as they will not face discrimination in that area. If you are happy, does it matter what anyone else thinks?

As for Issan girls, I'm afraid that many of the bars and massage parlours are populated with girls from that area, and unfortunately the region gets painted with the same brush. As most ladies in Issan earn their money from legitimate jobs it is indeed unfair to tar them with the same brush. But let's be honest here, fairness is for children, the world we live in is not fair, and can at times be incredibly cruel. The pattaya crowd have only ever met Issan bargirls, so when they criticise it's from their own experiences.

The problem with marrying or having a long-term relationship with a prostitute is that many are damaged goods after that experience. Like the pretty girl who goes to London to become a model, is persuaded to do a few topless shots, and a few months later is starring in 'gangbang' videos on youporn ... and before you know it she's hard faced, unfeeling and not the girl she once was. It's a cruel world.

Cheer up Dave, you managed to snare a good un!

Have to agree with you on this one.

Forum experts with either no first hand experience of that which they speak, or experience, that although very limited they still assign to the entire country and all people herein.

Then someone new comes along, reads the 'expert testimonial' and forms their own warped opinion based on what they've just read and their (usually) parochial worldview.

'Unedible'? What's that then? Take it you're one of them boring, know nothing yankee doodles who thinks real food is burger and fries, hot dogs, meatloaf etc. lol. Haute cuisine to you would probably be cheap street food tat nuked in gallons of over-used, overly-refined palm oil. You wouldn't know the difference. Never mind. How did you manage to get on the flight?

What?    You are so totally wide of the mark it's incredible.

I'm British (by passport at least).

I don't eat crap food.  I'm not from a UK background, so the types of food typically enjoyed by the average Brit I don't find appealing.

Fish and chips with mushy peas... nope
Pies with gravy and chips.... nope
Roast potatoes and yorkshire puddings.... no thanks.   Although I would eat the beef so long as it's not over cooked.

I like meat, nice sauces, steamed vegetables.   Minimal starch, minimal rice.   Avoid fried food, salt and processed sugar.   Don't eat processed foods or fast food.

Don't eat street food and if I eat out I like good restaurants, where you make a reservation and dress for dinner.

I'm tall and slim so no trouble getting on the flight thanks, which was from Hong Kong incidentally, when I decided to move here 8 years ago.

Jesus's ever heard of the words "trust and confidentially" you almost given away where you live. Not that I belive a third of what you say anyway. But as a so called business man who is wrongly trusted to read and translate people's personal emails and then tell the entire readership of TV is disgusting and I would say down right pathetic. I hope no one  recognises your buisness it won't last long. Why don't people think before putting fingers to keyboards. I would say your the sado and completely untrustworthy based on your post.

I thought it was an illuminating post ... and I suspect that it is true. Sad that he didn't tell the Englishman that his wife was HIV+ ... I would have.

I'm guessing Dave can't get his head around a fellow Brit (although I'm not keen on referring to myself as that) finding a lot of British food to be unhealthy, stodgy and unappealing.

If you're not happy with having a British passport why not relinquish it?

I was just saying to the Mrs last night how I'd like beans on toast for breakfast for a change. I love English grub tbh and where I lived in London is a bit of a nightmare for a simple bit of fish and chips. Unless you go during lunch your looking at £9.50  for fish and chips on the evening.

So by that rationale. all guys from the East End of London are villains. Grow up man.

He didn't say that. He pointed out that nearly all bar girls are from Isaan, and they are there because they have no other choice. Most will probably do what they need to survive. If that means ripping off white guys, then so be it. Working in an environment like a typical gogo bar is bound to affect a person's values and their willingness to do things others may not be so inclined to do.

That doesn't mean that all Isaan girls are thieving whores. It doesn't mean that all bar girls are bad people. But bar girls are much more likely to be bad people than other girls, and most bar girls are Isaan girls.

Similarly, a poor guy from a poor family in a crappy part of London is much more likely to be a criminal than a rich guy who grew up with everything he needs and never struggled to survive. This is particularly true if he surrounds himself with friends who are bad people. Doesn't mean that all poor guys from the crappy part of town are bad people. But they are more likely to be bad people (or, for example, make bad choices out of necessity) than those with a solid job and good family backgrounds.

I am happy to have it.   But people make vast assumptions based on accent, appearance and knowledge of your passport.

If I refer to myself as a Brit, people assume I was born there, lived there, like fish and bloody chips....  that I must follow some poxy football team etc etc

When I meet people (because I have quite a posh British accent) people assume I'm from there.

I'm not and I dislike the assumptions.   Despite understanding why people make them, I just wish people weren't so bloody narrow minded.

I was born in Libya, and the family moved to Hong Kong when I was 6.  I lived in HK for 35 years, albeit with a 7 year stint in a great public school in Wales.

I'm a permanent HK resident and considered HK to be home until a few years ago when I realised that I know consider Bangkok to be home and this is where I've chosen to build my next business empire.

Well, he's either made it up or he is telling the truth? We know what you think. It sounds believable to me though ... there is a  documentary programme showing young girls emailing foreigners with the help of a lady in the village with the best English skills. And plenty of examples of girls asking for money from multiple foreign boyfriends.

On another topic, just read a story in the newspaper yesterday about a town in Morocco where a lot of the young folk are conning people (men) on Facebook and Skype ... they think they are having cam sex with some busty lovely, but they are really being filmed watching a film. The next thing they know they are being scammed for thousands of pounds or else they're Facebook friends and relatives will be sent a recording. I don't think Issan girls have the skills for that, but if they did I'm sure they would.

I'm looking for an entry into the Opium trade if you've still got your contacts in Hong Kong ... ?

Hope it all goes well for you Sean but seriously how about not Thread jacking everything with your business ambitions it looks like a cry for investment. Add that to you namedropping some very suspect fake flight ticket websites and then there's the conversation which you forgot you had when you apparently met another member and yet it was the EXACT same discussion you had with that member only 3 months before. Looking a bit iffy I say so myself.

I have eaten it, but don't get why people rave about it.   There are far tastier items one can consume as part of a fry up if that is what you want.

I'm more concerned with keeping my weight down since turning 45, in the past I would have eaten sausages (I do love pork chipolatas), bacon and baked beans.

Now I don't.

Why do you underestimate issan ladies? There are also counter documentaries about so called Internet scams and I'm not saying for a minute it does not happen. There are Nigerian men more prolific at scamming. Just remember everything you read or see is not necessarily the truth.
