BANGKOK: -- The Army is gathering opinions on reconciliation from various sectors as part of an “agreement of truth” to be signed by all political figures in the context of the national reconciliation preparation committee.

Armed Forces Chief General Surapong Suwana-Adth, who oversees the hearing process, said opinions were being collected from politicians from 46 parties and people from the academic, business, private and civil-society sectors.

The military has assumed the role of a middleman and facilitator among conflicting actors, particularly at the provincial level.

Some experts have also been invited to synthesise the opinions.

“All sides share the same good will for the country, that we should be reconciled and peaceful for future progress,” Surapong said. “There are just minor differences in details.”

Once gathered, the opinions will be forwarded to a subpanel on proposal making overseen by Army Commander-in-Chief General Chalermchai Sittisart, he added.

The generals have worked under a government committee to build reconciliation navigated by Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, with the state goal to resolve years-long political conflicts among parties, partisan factions and the public.

Agreement of Truth. Reconciliation. Thailand 4.0. The b's. just keeps on flowing.

Totally agree with you, Jerojero. I don't know how much more of this constant, intelligence-insulting garbage I (and numerous others) can take. Tyranny is one thing - but insulting our intelligence on a minute-by-minute basis during that tyranny is veritably sadistic!

If there were laws in Thailand and they were applied fairly, the country would not go through all these wasted motions.  Instead of laws, bureaucracies are put into place by an over controlling military.  The only reconciliation that will take place will be settling for less freedoms and opportunities.  It is mind numbing to watch.

ass.u.me

Not only does the RTM has unilateral extrajudicial power to control the agreement of truth but also to exempt itself from such an agreement.

The RTM cannot present itself as a neutral party (necessary as a facilitator) given its vested political interest to maintain control for at least the next 20 years of its agenda.

How Government Works:

- Breaks your legs

- sells you a wheelchair

- Taxes the wheelchair

- Regulates use of the wheelchair

- Assures you that without government

you wouldn’t be able getting around so well.

If that's a sample of the truth the "agreement of truth" represents, then truth has fallen victim to the forces of propaganda.

Well finally stumbled across my laugh joke for the day. Hillarious. The only true answer is lobotomies all around.

"Agreement of Truth" does sound Orwellian?

I wonder which Ministry would handle this?
