coralia
Somebody told me recently that the water in Chiang Mai swimming-pools (including in hotel or condominium pools) is always cold, compared to other places in Thailand... Is that true??
A1Str8
No.
Paul Catton
Personal experience for me would be that they appear much colder than Southern locations.
Sandy Freckle
I would say..., slightly cooler...., but not much.
Loaded
yes, the water is imported from China which is much colder than Chiang Mai. Chinese water is cheaper than Thai water.
jonwilly
In CM's cool season the water is cold especially during the morning. As the climate warms up the water warms. Later in the day is better for warm water. john Try http://www.therealcentreoftheuniverse.com
Thailand
I think in some cases it could be warmer but then there is always the chance it could get cooler depending on the prevailing winds and if there is an "r" in the month.
Sandy Freckle
If I was swimming in a CM pool and I moved into a warmer patch...., I suppose I would move out of the area.
Paul Catton
Last month, pool at both Suriwongse and either of the Imperial Mae Ping pools would have challenged a brass monkey. Ramada Plaza in Bangkok with a stay between the two Chiang Mai hotels was great for swimming with better ambient temperature.
watgate
The eco resort in chiang mai has a great pool and it is not cold. Give it a try.

coralia
Thank you all for your replies... This issue is really complicating my life. For many years I have been planning to buy a small condo and move to Chiang Mai when I turn 50... But in the meantime I have gotten used to swimming one hour in the morning in the swimming-pool... If I can't swim in Chiang Mai, going to live there doesn't seem like a good idea anymore.......
Thailand
If the temp of pool water is complicating your life then a rethink is definitely in order. I have swum almost every day for some years, in the "winter" the water is refreshingly cool to bracing and in the "summer" like a warm bath. In the interim period the water is just about perfect. Dante99
You can swim in CM all year but if you want to worry about it there is always Suan Prung.
sharktooth
From experience my condo pool is generally cold in the morning 12 months of the year, however gradually warms up as the day goes on and the sun gets at it.

I expect to pay up to 100b each. There's a big covered pool opposite Home Pro on the Middle Ring Road in Moo Baan Nimman Noradee (18.738634,98.967900), it's called Nimman Noradee Club House.Otherwise, I do a local hotel search using TripAdvisor or Agoda and see which places have a pool. Then just ask if they welcome outside visitors to use their facilities and how much.
