Prawit denies reports on elections and reshuffle

Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan has refuted a report that the state was preparing for local administration elections, saying it was only an assumption.

He also dismissed a report that there might be a cabinet reshuffle in April after Songkran Days.

He said it was impossible to hold such an election now as the organic laws had not been completed.

Article 44 which grants sweeping power to the junta would not be used either, he said. Everything must follow the constitution, Prawit stressed.

" Everything must follow the constitution, Prawit stressed."

Would this be the constitution the junta started changing immediately after it was 'approved' in the sham referendum?  The one with the changes still unapproved by whoever approves such a transient document?

Why don't they just admit they like making things up as the go along, and see no need to change that with an election?

I think that everything should revert to the constitution in force before the coup after an election is held, if ever.

In my country anything the junta has done would be called 'ultra vires' which means above or beyond their power.

The Constitution in effect now is the 2004 Interim Constitution (amended by Prayut in 2015 to provide for a constitution referendum). It contains Article 44. So use of Article 44 remains a viable junta tool until endorsement of the draft 2016 Constitution.
