Pattaya Classic Car Show breaks all records

PATTAYA:-- The largest collection ever of Classic Cars in Thailand was also the second Pattaya classic car show and was held on the manicured lawns in front of the Asia Pattaya Hotel. Initially expecting 82 classics, there were a couple of notable dropouts, especially the 1990 Jaguar XJ 220 which experienced an engine failure during the week before the show weekend. However, last minute entries swelled the numbers, finishing at more than 90 cars.

Many of the classics came from Bangkok, whilst others came from Pattaya and Hua Hin, and one notable entry from Phuket, driven up, rather than being brought on a trailer. All in all it was recorded that participants came from 11 nations and was undoubtedly declared to be the biggest Classic Car Show in Thailand. It was also noted that more than 1200 visitors of many nationalities attended the show where they stopped to admire the dazzling collection of some of the most beautiful awe-inspiring classic cars.

Let's see, it's the world's largest outdoor car show and last year people from more than 40 countries came there with their cars, some people even shipped over their cars from US to be a part of it. It's also the largest rolling car show, it's a little different to have 10-20,000 classic cars cruising around the city whit all the fun stuff like burn outs, impromptu drag races and alot of partying compared those American shows that are larger where they keep the cars indoors and not even start the engines!

And as the name "Power Meet" insinuates it's mainly for classic American V8's... even my parent's use to join up with their 1958 Pontiac Sheifthan! But, you can get away with other classic cars too such as a Swedish Volvo P1800.

What is the definition of a"classic" car? Is it based on age, or acclaimed design?

At the risk of offending the Americans on this forum, IMHO acres of sheet metal does not make a classic.

I thought it was 25 years old to be classic.

Not sure though.

But it is not held in or has anything to do with Pattaya .....
