Fingerprint scanning access in my condo

The finger scanner is only used to enter the building, you still need a key to get into your room .

There would reallly be no need to go through all that trouble to replicate a finger print on the scanner and photo copy it and use that to gain entrance , all you would need to do would be to ask someone to let you in

Thieves have been known to bypass fingerprint scanners and then enter rooms with open doors that maids are cleaning in that don't have video surveillance. And even if there is video surveillance many times they have an accomplice the works in the condo or hotel that will disable the video surveillance or pull the tape.

Maids do come and go leaving doors open to get extra towels, products for the refrigerator or some even assume the person who entered was the guest who signed in!   Maids are human and at times leave the keys in the door which can be grabbed and duplicated the same day.  Thieves love master keys!

Thieves have been known to steal televisions, stereos, empty safes, hairdryers, liquor, anything of value even if the room is not occupied.

Never underestimate a clever, psychotic thief.

I owned a Private Investigation agency and a Insurance Adjustment Co. for 25 years and I've seen it all.

Yes, a thief will be able to by pass any security measures on building entrances , finger scanners will not stop a determined thief , as any other measure will not .

As we are talking bout a Condo complex, rather than a hotel , maids do not operate within condo buildings , except by request .

Yes, a finger scanner will not deter a determined thief, but It will cause an obstacle to an opportunist thief and it will stop people walking in and out the building

Thanks for your answer.

I beg to differ.

I believe that is a violation of my privacy to give a fingerprint to keep on file for entering. Besides, identity theft is a real issue and so easy in countries like Thailand.

I should be offered another option.

Ok , here is your other option ....Iris scan ...OK ?

I live in this soi 15 condo and have ben fingerprinted as well. At first, I thought it rather strange and over the top, but given the amount of Air BNB movement in this condo recently, I hope this will stamp it out. If so, all good as far as I am concerned.

My dealings with the new management have been quite pleasant so far. They have responded to a couple of maintenance issues very promptly and in a courteous manner.

The people shouting the loudest against fingerprint entry are the ones breaking the law and doing short term illegal condo rentals. It's about the only way to get a handle on the problem and some condos are starting to use it.   If you're not breaking the law you shouldn't have a problem with fingerprint entry.  Plus, I'd welcome not having to carry a keycard and have my fingerprint access my condo floor, the pool, etc.  Keeping out unauthorized people is great in my opinion.

Finger print scanners are the best option.

Keys, after a while , there are many keys floating about and previous people who have stayed they can get in, or just get more keys cut, so, anyone can enter

Having to put an entry code number in, soon, everyone knows the number and anyone can enter .

Having swipe cards, means you have to carry it around, everytime you go out and you can give the card to other people, so, they can get in.

It's for good reason, mainly to stop landlords from renting out nightly and weekly on air bnb

Before you could pass around lift swipe cards but now you must be registered with condo juristic and get a scan done

While you feel inconvenienced , myself as a landlord welcomes this technology..

I am a tenant in a condo and I for one would be happy to prevent landlords to just rent out only nightly and weekly basis because I had seen the damage done to the property and also the noise they make at the swimming pool 3 am in the morning drinking and dancing.

The Arabs who came and went threw all the cigarettes butts on the floor everywhere, empty cans of beer, soft drinks for you to clear up. I don't single out the Arabs, but they were lots of them here in my condo and they are the ones causing the problems too bad their nationality has to be mentioned here. Because they are the culprits. The Chinese have not arrived yet, but if they do come I am not sure they will do the same.

So fingerprint scanning is God send to save us long term tenants from all these bastards. yes, I said "BASTARDS"

The Arabs are at Nana, while the Chinese prefer Rachada...

And never the twain shall meet...

Upgrading won't help. Daily rentals are being done at all the desirable condos that I know of--even the expensive ones--and the daily renters come from everywhere, not just the Arab countries.  Unfortunately, they all behave badly and break the rules because they think they are staying at a hotel and can do whatever they want.

Lifting a fingerprint on a sticky tape can also open the door ?

Been watching CSI have we??  But you are correct, it can and has been done, depending on the scanner, some have high resolution, some don't - normal fingerprint scanners we used in the Military and US Govt couldn't read a person that had light (not deep) fingerprints.  we had alternate scanners for that purpose.

Given the amount of airbnb in this building, I doubt this system will last long... I am prone to believe the building management team knows it already but does all this to cover their ass and show their best efforts... Even legit occupants and owners will grow tired of this very restrictive system. Only 2 fingerprints by condo, come on! What if you just want a friend to spend a few days while you're on vacation? So extreme.

Anyway, I have gone out of the building already, I have found someone to take over my lease. I am relieved because to me, this is a slippery slope, I bet you very soon they will charge you when you bring a friend over by the pool like it is the case in some condos in bkk already.

On another note, I agree that some nationalities are a nightmare to deal with. Unfortunately they ruin airbnb's reputation. This is sad.

Yes this is more a system for a office perhaps anyway it sucks did the majority of the residents voted for this rigid finger print system?

A fingerprint system can be as tight or as loose as a condo wants it.  Don't fault the system for how it is implemented.  A smartly managed system would start with registering the prints of everyone living in a condo unit into the system, regardless of the number.  Close family members who visit could also be registered. This is important because the condo will have better records of who is registered in each unit in the event of a fire or other emergency.   The fingerprints could not be changed for 30 days unless the condo is sold and a new owner registered.  This rule would help prevent illegal daily rentals.   If you have visiting guests, you would have the option of escorting them while they are visiting or registering their fingerprints at the juristic office.  Registering their prints would involve a charge that should be large enough to make it uneconomical for the illegal daily renters from using this service.  Possibly each condo could have 1 or 2 free registrations a month for overnight visitors.  A successful system implementation will provide better security, discourage illegal short-term rentals, and provide added convenience for the residents.
