Thai businessman arrested for allegedly trafficking Laotian, Myanmar girls

By The Nation

Immigration police Saturday arrested a Thai businessman on charge of trafficking Laotian and Myanmar girls under 18 into prostitution.

Wanchart Piamprasart, 55, was arrested at the Phothong Resort Hotel in Tambon Takian of Chachoengsao’s Mueang district at 5:30 am.

He was wanted on an arrest warrant approved by the Chachoengsao Cort dated June 30 2011.

Immigration Bureau Pol Lt Gen Natthathorn Praosunthorn said Wanchart was accused of trafficking girls under 18 from Laos and Myanmar to fresh trade in Chachoengsao in 2011.

An arrest warrant from almost 6 years ago ?

That seems about right. It has been five and a half years for the Red Bull fella, and he hasn't been arrested yet.

It seems to be only us foreigners who can be arrested at the drop of a hat.

Not only us foreigners.

But also Thai people with no money.

Thailand is the land of manana. Can't rush these things particularly if there is no gold at the end of the rainbow.

In this case it seems he was not a very smart "business man" as he could well have been encroaching on someone else's territory, hence the need for action to remove him by reporting him.

The statute of limitations is probably due to expire in a couple of months, so maybe they thought that they had to do something to look like they didn't let it go until then....

Well. This one prosecution will surely prove the Thai government is stopping human trafficking. And the West will say "Okay". The whole world is a bit of a joke. And a very small joke in the vastness of our universe.

This is an absolutely extraordinary development. Though human trafficking, and the slave trade continues here unabated, it seems like nobody ever gets arrested for it. It is as if someone with great power is seeing to it, that nothing happens to those monsters. This guy must have pissed somebody off. This kind of thing just does not happen. Whatever you do, do not ever arrest someone for these crimes, nor engage in any sort of meaningful fight against corruption of any sort.

Does anyone think he will be tried, and convicted? I do not.
