A 21-year-old British tourist was found unconscious near a railway track in Chumphon’s Mueng district on Saturday morning.

The driver of the Thon Buri-Lang Suan train spotted the man at 10.50am and made an emergency call to police.

Officers rushed to the scene to find the man lying with blood seeping from his nose and mouth. Only a driving licence was found on him, in the name of Timothy Daniel Clark. He was taken to the Chumphon Hospital and remained in coma.

Pol Capt Ranong Chumphinit of the Ban Wisai Nua police station said that the man may have fallen from the Bangkok-Nakhon Si Thammarat train that has just passed the section of track where the train driver spotted him.

Chumphon Governor Narong Polla-iad has been in touch with the British Embassy over the incident.

a farang with no wallet and passport, sounds more like he was more than likely robbed, you dont go anywhere in Thailand without your money and a passport/visa. Will be interesting to see what they say next and if they find any of his belongings on the train or in other peoples possesion

A dreadful place to have a major accident. Out in the sticks and the nearest halfway decent medical facility 30 minutes away even if he was found the instant he fell. I can only wish him good luck.

Here's some more information, but foul play could still be involved.

Very sad and tragic. Let's hope that he'll fully recover and that he's got a good insurance policy.

Chumpoon isn't well known for good hospitals, to be honest.

The man was identified as 21 year-old Daniel Timothy Clarke of Aldershot in southern England.

Pol Capt Ranong Chumphinit of the Ban Wisai Nua police station said that the Clarke may have fallen from the Bangkok-Nakhon Si Thammarat train that has just passed the section of track where the train driver spotted him.

Rescuers rushed Clark to Chumphon Khet Udomsakdi Hospital for treatment.

The hospital is a government hospital and I truly hope that he'll get the nest possible treatment.

Take it a little easy, there. Worried friends and family might be reading this.

Chumphon hospital (Udomsakdi) is admittedly not state of the art, but I am sure they will be doing their very best. They saved a niece's life after she was badly injured in a RTA not far from where this chap encountered his misfortune, so all is not lost.

Sorry, please don't get me wrong. My words were more to give some background information and this government hospital is not one of these with special units for comatose patients.

In such a situation each minute counts, the right doctor, the right medication. But first of all the right diagnosis.

The information about the hospital is from a friend who lives in Chumpoon.

Let's all hope that he'll be okay again soon. Cheers.

I hope that his embassy will at least try to do all they can and money for a more expensive hospital shouldn't be an issue now at this stage.

No worries, mate. I probably flew at the keyboard a little too quickly myself. It is just that the Mother in law lives in Wisai and I have had a few very personal dealings with Udomsakdi hospital myself.

AS this is an emergency thread some rules must be allowed to be broken.

HERE is in Thai the name of the hospital in Chumphon if relatives want to google search to find out any new developments.

โรงพยาบาลชุมพรเขตอุดมศักดิ์

AS far as I can read into the reports the young man is in a stable condition.

Maybe this time it was an accident, but an accident waiting to happen with the state of some of these trains that should have gone to the scrap yard 20 years ago. where are these new chinese trains or are we all still dreaming that one day a train will arrive

.

Twenty odd years ago I was warned by the guard not to stand in the door way because  people throw stones,

Thirty minutes later and egg hit the door frame,

That's true that is

unfortunately I know this hospital too well.. Everyone I have know to go there for operations or serious medical problems usually end up in worse shape with infections. Although the staff are pleasant (for the most part) they are handicapped with poor facilities and unsanitary conditions. If anyone is related to this man I would suggest immediately moving him to a private hospital there in Chumphon instead... Or to bangkok government hospital where they will have specialists on hand

No. Sounds like he fell out of the unsecured 3rd class carriage. On this route there fare no safety gates or doors. Foreigners regularly stand in the carriage connectors smoking or sticking their heads out to gawk. Very dangerous. All this despite the conductor making a detailed and lengthy announcement  about the dangers of such behaviour and of a 2000 baht fine for smoking.  Not the first time it has happened and won't be the last time. How do I know because I have witnessed the   stupid foreigners engaging in such behaviour on the  Bangkok- Kanchaburi and Bangkok- Hua Hin routes.  Don't jump to conclusions just yet.

Note: I didn't see the confirmations before responding, but  it really annoys me when some people  immediately post BS  alleging a murder. It is  just so very wrong. Morally and legally wrong.

Fortunate,

from looking at the selfie it doesn't look like he had much of a brain anyway.

Still, Maybe he is young and stupid, but he's very lucky to survive. I hope his family are going to get to him soon. My mum would be a wreck. If an expat is in trouble it is natural instincts that want you to help. What do I gain from posting 12:30 am updates on this boy whose fallen off a train. I get, hope, hope that one day when I'm laying half dead somewhere, someone can update my progress, whilst my family rush half way around the world to be by my side.

My stupid retired farang father did the same while in BKK...hanging out of the carwindow to make pictures (even after i warned him), just stepping out of the car whenever he saw a photo opportunity.....Just walking into restaurants only to make a picture (of the conveyor belts), diving in the pools which are very undeep, walking around in his speedo even on the streets,  and so on...

Now if i had done so when being his kid he would have punished me hard..

Some farang just can't stand the lawlessnes of thailand and think they also can be kids again...like there is no danger at all cause all thai do things like that.

while the updated info of this moron hanging out of the window earlier in a train trip opens this up  it still does not explain why he only had a driving licence on him or why someone didnt alert the people on board he had fallen. How many here go away for a trip and take nothing but a drivers licence with them when in a foreign country or leave all their money, id  and baggage somewhere else while they go off to play funny buggers. While this may not be deliberate, with the information provided it leaves doubt as to what may really have happened.

He is a smart traveller, his money is all in his backpack hidden under his seat....?

I have no sympathy for this guy, hanging out of a train to take selfies is just downright stupid, full stop. No thought of consequences whatsoever.

If we all took a trip down memory lane I am sure we can come up with few downright stupid moments I know I can. Sometimes I wonder if it was sheer damn luck that got me this far.
