Growth on Forearm

Recommended Posts

Over the last 2 years, what was a small sore, probably an infected hair follicle, has become a persistent growth on my right forearm.  It's now about the size of a half pea and is constantly getting bumped and irritated. I'll admit to scratching at it myself way too often.  A medically knowledgeable friend suggested I was being too casual about it and that I should have it looked at and probably removed.

Any suggestions as to where in Bangkok and by who?

Being too casual sounds funny, sorry.

It's your health and you should do something immediately.

          Have you ever considered cancer?

Actually the only skin cancer specialist I can recommend wholeheartedly in Thailand is Dr. Anna at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital  http://m.bangkokpattayahospital.com/en/doctor-profile?v_id=7&depid=2

If you are unwilling to travel that far, my best recommendation for Bangko is Dr. Niyom at Bumrungrad

You will likely need to have it removed and biopsied.

You seem to be very knowledgeable after reading some of your posts. What I don't understand is that people wait 2 years to finally come to a decision to get it checked?

Enough time for some unwanted cells to reproduce.

I just had Dr. Anna cut of a spot in my arm that was about the same size that also had not fully healed fir years . When she first saw it she suggested to just monitor it to save me the cost of taking it off and doing lab work but after another year of watching it heal and then flare up again and again I had her take it off and send it to the lab . I get two stitches and lab work saying it was nothing serious and now is healing . Happy I did it and it's nice to look at arm for first time in many years and see it gone and not have to worry about accidentally hitting it on something or scratching it flared up again create a scab as it would heal then come back again and again .

Thanks all for the suggestions.  I will make an appointment Dr. Niyom as soon as Songkran is over.

It's always easier to tell others what to do.  It just didn't seem significant to me.

And in most cases it will not be that serious - but there can be exceptions so be sure it is checked for cancer even if you use a different doctor and they are 90% sure it is not - there just is not that much skin cancer among Thai for most doctors to be real experts with just observation.  But There are other doctors that can and do treat skin cancer so if you are proactive going to Pattaya (if not living there) may not be required.  But most skin treatment is for beauty here so you do need to make sure they do a biopsy (and the normal laser removal is not that effective on cancer growths so will likely require surgical removal if positive).  Old fashioned use of liquid nitrogen is actually much more reliable and a lot easier and cheaper - but not beautiful so many doctors/hospitals do not even have available.
