plan is to get a retirement visa .. 800K 'deposit' is acceptable as long as I can get it back.

any nightmares to anticipate if I choose to end my Thai retirement?

can I easily withdraw my funds? Currency? Wire Transfer to an US account?

Good question.

I think no matter what anyone says, you won't really know 100 percent until/unless you try to repatriate that money. I got an international ATM from my Thai bank and tested it but they could freeze that anytime.

And then, even in the worse case scenario where you can't get much of the money out, it can always be a pool of holiday money for future trips to Thailand

Mr. Jingthing you have a temperament & wisdom to be envied.

800K Thb for vacation:

= 400 LTs ..@ 2-3 per week (I'm over 60) w/ 6 weeks vacation per year vacation = 25 years of LTs :o

lord, hear my prayer, that such could come to pass.

to croak w/ a BFed sweetie at 80 is my dream.. like Red Foxx..

oh, I forgot to add in vitamin V expense .. so it's 250 LTs @ 3 per week .....

might need a spread sheets to calculate 800, 000 Thb for vacations..

the anti-foreigner tone, visa & investment, presented by the non-BG Thai is a major concern.

how many of us have ever been shown ANY friendliness by ANY Thai other than a BFed BG?

polite is not friendly .. unless I'm providing them income, I do not think I've ever even had eye contact with a Thai!

in my heart, I believe MOST Thai hold not good will for the farang.

I am on the marriage visa and the rules may be different.

Basically I spend the money in the bank during the year,

and replace it ready for the next time. :D

After all the money earns zero interest in the bank in LOS. :o

The rules are the same. The money is yours and you can do with it anything you like. It is a bank account.

Retirement requires pension of 65k per month with the option to use 800k bank account that has had that amount in the account for 3 months as an alternative. You are free to use the money but for 3 months it must be maintained at or above 800k in order to qualify for retirement extension of stay.

Astral , why have you not got your money in a fixed account getting a good interest? You can do it for 3 months, take out what you need and put the rest back for another 3 months. and so on.

Well me actually. I know a lot of Thai people most of whom are not BG or ex BG though some are and I have no problems with friendliness from them. On the other hand I do live outside of a village in the central region and not in the "vice filled" :o big cities. People outside of the cities I have found react to you and me in the way that we react to them.

If you smile and try to talk to them they will do the same to you. If you are unfriendly and suspicious then they will not want to talk to you or be friends. It is the same in a lot of places around the world. If you want to make friends with Tai people you can but you have to make the first move and be patient.

It works for me and I also have quite a few friends who are BG even though I don't see them so much nowadays, and they are nice people too.

It is easy to wire back to your home country anymoney that was wired here, I have done it with more than 800,000bht. Same system as in your home country.

The problem would be in you put the money into your account in cash and then tried to send it to a foreign account,
