PHUKET: -- Dhamrongtham center staff and representatives of the Engineering Institute of Thailand on Thursday inspected a ‘questionable’ housing project in Koh Kaew.

The house, backed by a well-known developer, has reportedly been in shambles for about three years.

Sintichai Jitkam and Sunisa Jitkham in November last year filed a complaint after purchasing the house in the development for 6.7 million baht. They additionally filed photos of water leaks from the ceiling and other structural problems that they said could be hazardous.

This is just normal Thai Construction and Quality Control. What is Quality Control? We're not sure, but we'll investigate.

The builder didn't know what Quality Control was. He's now being educated. Good news for the next homeowner.

'Officials refused to disclose the name of the development, which is located nearby the British International School Phuket. No further updates are yet made available from the Dhamrongtham center.'

I'll bet they did. But it wouldn't take the mind of Sherlock to find it. And just to be sure, house buyers could play safe and assume that any development within a random range of the suggested location could be it. Then all the developers would suffer for the incompetence and non-identification of the one.

One of these days, a responsible government might just decide it's time to amend the Thais' idea of what constitutes defamation, at which time service and product standards will dramatically improve.

If they are serious about quality, of goods and services, and become of a level where they can compete with the best in class, then they have to change.

Whilst people aren't able to complain or campaign then businesses and individuals will continue to ignore their responsibilities.

And they want Farangs to invest here, might as well burn your cash as here they will burn it for you as most places start falling apart after the first heavy rain

Shoddy construction and Thais even ripping off fellow Thais, hardly an advert to encourage foreigners to buy. I'll stick to renting off those foolish enough to buy.

A friend recently moved out of a two year old build as a balcony railing broke and his son was nearly killed. He'd rather rent a house and flog the property. He chose not to listen to advice and agrees that in retrospect he never would have bought but Thai wife pushed him into it.

There were numerous faults right from the start- leaking windows, dodgy electrics, leaking communal pool, etc. Contractors were less than useless.

Yes love does indeed do strange things to a man here. The Sirens beckon.

my friend had a house built in the chiangmai area.he sacked 3 builders in the process.nearly finished now,but the quality of some of the builders is bad everywhere.the house builder in phuket is no different to anywhere else in thailand

Thailand has some good builders and a  lot of bad ones, the trick is to find a good builder when you

are planning to build or buy a house. My Thai family also had problems in Bangkok with a condo builder,

their condo had a leaking roof, and it took nearly 2 years for them to get the problem finally fixed.

Very sad reality.
