Given Prayuts attitude towards the plaque, I don't think anyone can be in any doubt exactly who ordered its removal. Its sensitive nature involving as it does, democracy, a thing unlikely to be seen here again soon, speaks volumes. I hope if a statue of Prayut ever goes up that someone nicks that too.

or sprays it red.....

Only in Thailand...

The guy referenced in the Asian Correspondent article wants journalists who report criticism of the military to be executed by firing squad, according to that news report.

But it doesn't say anything about what he said, or whether he said anything, about the former police general who apparently actually made the comments critical of the military that got reported.

Literally, another case of "shooting the messenger..."

police said these officials believed that the event posed a threat to national security, and that it could be used by unscrupulous individuals to stir up disorder,” the FCCT announcement stated.

Those would be individuals not in government, would they? These loons fail to appreciate that the FCCT isn't grounded in Thailand, nor are its members. I'd be very surprised if this lunacy didn't reach foreign media, making the NCPO look even more ludicrous.

Doesn't bode well for elections next year, either.

Certainly doesn't bode well for ever having free, fairly contested elections.  The government could just decide that a candidate or campaign event "posed a threat to national security, and that it could be used by unscrupulous individuals to stir up disorder”.  That candidate or campaign would then be shut down, and voters would only be able to vote for junta approved candidates.

Of course that wouldn't surprise anyone.

Anybody who believes that Prayut was the man who instigated the coup is a fool.  He has someone much higher up pulling his strings.  He's just the front man.

Prayut was the best tool money can buy. As always in every conspiracy, follow the money.

Instead, the FCCT said it would mark World Press Freedom Day with an alternative panel of speakers, to be confirmed later, who would discuss the state of media freedom in Thailand at a time when Thai journalists face new regulations which would impede their ability to scrutinise those in power.

How does that avoid the possibility that such discussion "could be used by unscrupulous individuals to stir up disorder?"

Perhaps the FCCT should limit its panel discussions to Thai food and vacation opportunities.

FCCT's very name that includes "Foreign" might by itself be used by unscrupulous individuals to stir up disorder. For example, inclusion of "foreign"  implies it is an alien (aka "outside") organization that might contravene respect for Thai nationalism. I suggest (a la tongue in cheek) changing its name to a more Thai inclusive one such as "Friendly Correspondence Club of Thailand."
