I'm always amazed why the media chooses to use a 5 year old photograph of this character when there are quite a few more up to date shots available, mostly showing him enjoying his freedom in the U.K. and at F1 races..

And more honest reporting from sites like this; http://www.torontosun.com/2017/03/30/prosecutors-in-thailand-postpone-appearance-for-red-bull-heir-vorayuth-boss-yoovidhya

Maybe trying to make him look boyishly innocent. Dad could be calling in a few favours.

he has ALREADY gotten another (foreign) passport;

and there are many countries with no Thailand extradition treaty

For example even if the UK had no extradition treaty with Thailand the UK could still legally extradite him if the so wish so I suppose many other countries have the same laws...

Even if a country without extradition treaty may decide he is an undesirable and bar him entry.

.......The Foreign Affairs Ministry is IN THE PROCESS of revoking the passport.......

.........police had finished ALMOST all the paperwork involved........After 5 years.......:cheesy:

No the police should have asked him to surrender his passport years ago when he first failed to turn up to answer the charges against him, then assuming he did not then they should have informed Immigration who could have taken it off him when he tried to leave the country.

I can't imagine that he hasn't already.

Now all he has to do is manage to stay off social media and stay out of any country with an extradition treaty and he's good until the statute runs out.

And it really is just as easy as that.

I'm firing up my screen printer...first run

"Free Boss"

I expect to sell 3

I probably should print

"Boss Free"

Maybe I'm lucky and it will catch on like the current "thrasher" T shirt fad?

then it's :partytime2:

Not sure which is the funniest, taking 5 years to revoke a passport or what Thais are saying on FB that both Mercedes and Ferrari have stopped supping engines to Redbull F1 because of Bosses actions. Intelligent people know Redbull always used Renault engines but in 2017 they have been renamed TAG. In this day and age you would think they could check thinks out easy, but that seems impossible for some unknown reason here.

PS RedBull is Austrian owned company not Thai anyhow, Boss as you call him is just a hanger on

Not wanting to appear cynical, but one assumes the delay was to ensure he had received his new passport from <insert country with easily obtained citizenship> before pulling his Thai passport.

I don't think so. If there is an Interpol red alert it won't work out for him. He might have it already but the distinction here is Thaksin was never wanted by Interpol.

Another point is if the act of absconding is a crime that could change things.

You have to wonder about this family: incredibly blessed in their lives in Thailand as second generation immigrants, a combination of good fortune, hard hard clever ideas. But they show utter contempt for their new homeland. The parents should be blowing the whistle on this kid rather than aiding and abetting his flight. Even now, after all this drama, he would still only get a few months max...in relative comfort...but the whole lot of them seem determined to thumb their noses at society.

You would think so but that's looking at things through Western eyes. Chinese, and those of Chinese ancestors see nothing wrong in wealth and power buying privilege and favor. Each generation wants to move their family up a notch or two regardless of how it's done and who suffers. This helps diminish any empathy or considerations of others.

We see so many examples every day in so many ways. But avoiding responsibility, accountability and lack of moral compass are viewed differently in the East to the West.

This continuing story seems to generate pages of comments with each passing report.  My feeling is that eventually the Thai people will put enough pressure on the government that they will have to take some action.  Hopefully there will be a fair trial and just punishment when the time comes.

Yeah I can see that point. That is why so many of us westerners have chosen to leave our nanny states.

Nothing to do with nanny states. Not all Western countries are socialist in outlook. But most do have a reasonable justice system, with competent (fairly) enforcement.

If you, your family, or friends are hit and killed by a Ferrari, Porsche, BMW; or even knocked over the express way wall and killed by an underage, unlicensed, uninsured driver, chances are that person will be caught, tested for DUI, charged, tried and if convicted punished by the law in most if not all Western countries.

Do you think the same applies here? Or do you consider that a "nanny" activity - arresting and investigating those who cause death whilst driving?

His family has properties all over the world. They own a resort on Tahiti at which my daughter stay at last year. All the staff quietly talking about him hiding there from time to time.  At that time she was there, she only heard that someone staying there was wanted in Thailand and his family owned the resort but did not know what for until she spoke to me later.  Too bad, maybe had gotten a reward.  I'm sure the Thai authorities knew the places he hides by now.

Totally agree, actually I would call it a landmark decision and action, and hopefully generating progress in terms of a balanced and fair civil society where people have right and also have responsibility and have values.

Serious enough to initiate an international fugitive search.

Not serious enough to apprehend at own airport.

On what charge?

It seems as though no charges were laid by the time he left, his passport had not been revoked so immigration did not have the power/right/authority/whatever to hold him.

IF the police had done something before he left this time then, yes Immigration would have the right and the law behind them but they didn't. Now WHY they didn't do it quicker or even do it any time in the last 5 years is a good question to ask, though whether you would get a definitive answer or not is another question.

What's this case got to do with nanny states?

That people left their nanny state because of rigid laws. Now they come here and expect expedient law enforcement except when they get called out. Everybody loves corruption when it works in their favor.
