BANGKOK, 20th May 2017 (NNT) - Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has reiterated that the government’s solutions to longstanding problems in Thailand are based on sustainability and effectiveness.

During his national televised address this week, the Prime Minister said the government and the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) have attained several outstanding achievements since taking office 3 years ago, as evident in international surveys such as the “Best Countries to Start a Business” report, which ranks Thailand top of the list among powerful countries around the world, while other surveys have placed Thailand among the top 10 countries in terms of tourism, overall growth, and cultural development. In addition, Thailand is one of the most popular destinations for foreign retirees to settle down in.

He said such achievements reflect the government's and the NCPO’s efforts and commitment to moving the country forward despite obstacles.

Further, he said the government’s measures to address the country’s problems are sustainable and will yield concrete results in the long run, though they seem intangible to some people.

He added that assistance measures don't always come in the form of money, but rather in the form of the knowledge people need to make a sustainable living, allowing people, particularly low wage earners and the poor, to be able to stand on their own feet.

Intangible, yet sustainable.

Maybe this makes more sense in Thai, if projected with an air of unquestionable, yet patronizing authority?

Gotta give him credit for keeping up with the Friday evening broadcast.

I am very surprised by these results. Perhaps they are being sarcastic?

Your final comment makes me wonder if he and his parliamentary colleagues and civil servants are still keeping up their daily exercise programme. Haven't seen a media release about it for quite a while so I guess it has fallen by the wayside for lack of numbers.

Intangible yet sustainable.

I totally agree with this statement.  If you do nothing and achieve nothing, then it's very easy to sustain that.

Kudos to the silly little General.

Not so. They are still doing the exercises as commanded. It's just that they are intangible.

I tell all the cute girls I meet that the advantage of begin my girlfriend is intangible, yet sustainable.

I suspect they believe the general about as much as they believe me.

Three years after seizing power and there are not tangible results ?   Sounds like he would only get elected at gun point.  For the last three years, all they have done is talk and clamp down on business.  It has been a shameful and wasteful three years.

Especially given that nobody watches it.

I guess he's referring to the "boiling frog"?

Throw the country into a pot of tepid water, slowly increase the temperature over three or more years, and voila.

The masses never realize that they're 'cooked'.

a raft of unfulfilled promises (aka 'reforms') and the big slide in thailand's international rep; add the silliness of submarines, the increase in corruption, the continued slide for thailand in the human development index; the foolishness that the govt tells us..........

There should be a newly minted Godwin's Law for Thailand that replaces 'Nazis' with 'Submarines'.
