Foreign criminal gangs are using Pattaya as haven for online crimes

Wonder if they're checking on the outlaw M/C gangs from Oz, who have bought into legitimate businesses with Thais fronting them to avoid detection.  No names, no pack drill but I would say that the Pattaya regulars would know those that I am referring to.:wai:

Do policemen in Thailand watch every tourist on daily basis??

Many times over the years I visit Thailand and I no longer visit touristic sights...Should I watch out ???

Absolutely - once your details are entered into the system at the airport etc- a massive AI supercomputer tracks your every move - the algorithms determine where you should be at any given time - so for example they determine  that you on a Monday should be in Prada at Siam Paragon at 11.30 am and dispatch a team .

I really really hope you were joking .

And why have the amazing RTP allowed this issue to even develope?

Its like growing a crop when its ripe you harvest it with much fan fare and blowing of horns your own. Its an image maker.

Why do they come to the conclusion that Pattaya is a magnet for digital criminals as opposed to anywhere else in Thailand? If, and this is heavily hypothetical, the last place I would base myself, for online criminal activity, would be in the middle of a commercial area with a large police force.

As long as heavy data transfer isn't happening all the time to alert the ISP's, there are many places in Thailand that have much superior internet connectivity than Pattaya.

They make a couple of arrests and think it is only Pattaya where it happens. Of course in the long game, it could be justification for their single gateway project and further amendment to the computer acts.......................

I guardedly gave you a like. I hope they are not monitoring.

Nothing new here, but you also find them in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Why all this media attention to Pattaya recently ?

Maybe by making the media focus on online crimes in Pattaya the authorities are trying to divert the attention from the commercial sex going on there, which is sooooo bad for the country's image, as we all know.

My kid once broke a vase deliberately as he was coming home from school with really with bad marks. Interesting strategy huh ?

WE have a saying, "follow the money". Tighten the banking regulations more, closely monitor money changers, loan sharks, land transactions.

Foreigners renting a big 2 story villa 8 guys play online poker all night, top of the line laptops they win between $500-800$ a night, every night.

Winnings are paid into a pre-paid Credit Card in a foreign country.

No trace of the money, no tax paid.

Not to mention the number of web designers doing on line business for foreign customers. (Digital Nomads my ass)

Like Locust the consume what they can and move on, mostly to another location. Easy and no trace of their activity. This is only one way these cheats work, you name it they are doing it. 2 weeks ago, Kow San road farang needed a Id card for proof of age for club entry. 500 baht photo, 30 minutes had a ID card with false identity on it. shop is a stones throw from the local BIB shop!

Will never stop, there is no punishment, just say "I Am Sorry" and move on to the next victim or go home for a break when out of money or on the run, back and do the same thing again, over and over.

yeah, im not sure online poker players and web designers are international criminals or locusts,

i pay no taxes anywhere either by the way, but that is due to careful preparation. Its not illegal, but someone who has worked their entire life to fund someone else's coffers might certainly need to believe it is.

how exactly are these people cheats other than they work and earn  in a way you cannot comprehend?

Nothing new!!

8 years ago one of my houses that was rented out to Chinese turned out to be a call centre, 15 of them arrested, 22 beds, 18 computers, 18 desks, 12 big screen TV"s, a load of security cameras, phones etc. all confiscated - and that was not including all the goodies that was thrown over the wall into the river!!

They had been doing this in that house for 9 months!!!!!

The police told me later that they were making 1.2 million baht a day from that location alone, all scamming their fellow countrymen in China, not in Thailand.

And how did the police find out.........TOT tipped them off, their monthly phone bill was around 60,000 Baht!!

did you get any leftover goodies?

What you said that prompted that response was, " And the Thais are all just model citizens in pattaya. "

Cast your minds back to the Tony Kenway assassination and ask yourselves how that resolved itself, or not.

researched this; can see your point; that one sounded like the usual thai police speak for a report that has sat in a drawer for months

Why this happened is because the international communities know how efficient and "cooperative" are the Royal Thai Police.

by far the biggest criminal activity carried out in Pattaya by westerners is drug dealing and they are not hard to spot, usually under 50 - have no possible income from outside Thailand - are staying for long periods (usually on overstay or visa runs) - some are over 50 and still have no income from outside Thailand and are getting illegal extensions through agents, all the authorities have to do is look into their income (where it comes from) they also usually have form from their home country

Indians are also at it usually fronting their drug business with either a restaurant Tailor or tour company

doesnt make much sense. so all these people, according to you the largest group of western criminals in pattaya so there must be hundreds at least, buy drugs off thai dealers, add their markup and then head down to walking st every night to compete with all the other drug dealers including the thais that have police protection? no wonder they are on overstay, there wouldnt be any money in it. and all those people going into tailor shops and indian restarauts are actually buying drugs?

Well they ain't buying suits lol
I'm being flippant really but in all my time spent in Pattaya I've ever known of one person who actually bought one made to measure and to be honest rarely see anyone give them the time of day when pestered along beach road etc

what is your point ?

your money comes from outside Thailand

not sure why you posted this

Point?

I can't get my head round your term "No Visible Income" in an area where the vast majority of settlers don't need to work.

Perhaps I should carry a sandwich box and  a thermos flask?

yes pattaya would be a paradise without these criminals.

It is a paradise. You don't have to get involved with criminals.

30+ years here and I've had no trouble with them. But it is good to see them being rounded up.

yes, was just an attempt at a joke. i lived 10 years in pattaya and foreign criminals made no difference to my life. only reason they can operate is by paying off the cops so i guess some of them have been trying to save on brown envelopes. i met one guy making porno movies and he had several bargirls make a complaint against him. they they found out sex movies showing them in were being distributed in thailand after they were told the movies would not be seen in thailand.. fees paid business as usual. the girls got very upset when he walked out of the police station a free man the same day.
