Moore is the first of the Bonds to pass on to the great MI6 in the sky. I enjoyed the films he did though I thought they went too far with the comedy stuff.

#1. Brosnan - the best Bond (4 films).

#2. Connery - the first Bond (7 films).

#3. Moore - the funny Bond (7 films).

#4. Craig - the athletic Bond (or the "Bourne" Bond) (4 films).

#5. Dalton - the angry Bond (2 films).

#6. Lazenby - The forgotten Bond (1 film).

Note: Didn't include the first person - Barry Nelson - to play Bond (in 1954) or David Niven from the 1967 version of Casino Royale .

You are of course forgetting David Niven, who played Bond in Casino Royale in 1967.

Being born in the 1964 I grew up with Moore as Bond. He was just perfect in the role. Those who came before I generally missed until viewing them later, and those who came after never for me, hit the 007 notes that Roger did. RIP. I enjoyed your work.

EDIT: Sorry KerryD, just spotted Niven in your by note.

for me the top 3 are close but I think Daniel rejuvenated the genre along with the producers/directors etc. also, for me born in 61, one  of the first films I can remember seeing in a cinema was Sean in Thunderball and the underwater fight scene by frogmen whose wet suits were orange or black and this has stuck in my memory all these years so that one is my favourite film.

for what?

Bit of a pub quiz question " who first played James Bond ? " people always say Sean Connery , but then the answer is Bob Holness who played him on the radio before Connery.

This is the first I've heard of Barry Nelson I must say, although he is listed on the net as the first Bond ( in some lists ), this puts Bob Holness into second place . [emoji4]

Let's not forget Bob Holness of Blockbuster fame !!

Or Woody Allen, Peter Sellers and Ursala Andrews (among others), all of whom played Bond in the spoof, Casino Royale.

Would make an interesting quiz night question. Several actually!

Roger, Loved your work. RIP.
