BANGKOK: -- Over 60 witnesses to the Phra Mongkutklaoo hospital bombing have been questioned by police with now political motive remaining the strongest possibility, according to the Royal Thai Police commissioner.

Disclosure of the latest update in the bomb probe came after the Royal Thai Police held a meeting with all relevant investigators to wrap up their findings.

The meeting was chaired by the deputy commissioner of the Royal Thai Police Pol Gen Srivara Rangsibhramanakul, who is in charge of the investigation.

At the meeting, southern insurgency motive was ruled out although a letter warning hospitals in the area of bomb attack just before the Phra Mongkutklao hospital bombing was earlier revealed.

The letter earlier suspected to be from the BRN insurgency group was just to divert attention of security authorities.

The pipe bomb used in the hospital attack didn’t have any weight to convince authorities to believe it was the work of southern insurgents. Instead it added stronger weight to two pipe bomb incidents, one at the National Theatre, and another at the old Government Lottery Office that they were the work of same perpetrators with political motive.

Royal Thai Police commissioner Pol Gen Chaktip Chaijinda revealed that thus far 61 witnesses have already been interviewed.

With regards to a sketch that was released by the media, he was not able to confirm that it was of one of the perpetrators of the bombing.

However he confirmed that the group that had carried out the bombing was politically motivated and favored violence to achieve its goals.

One suspect Wuthiphong Katchathammakun, or Ko Tee, was mentioned.

He stated that authorities believe they are the same ones that had carried out earlier bombings at the old Government Lottery Office and the National Theater.

"However he confirmed that the group that had carried out the bombing was politically motivated and favored violence to achieve its goals."

So let me think, who in the Kingdom has political ambitions, lots of weapons, access to explosives, has a history of violent attacks and wants power and control..........mmmmm.

I find it very difficult to fathom the intentions of this attack in that nobody has claimed responsibility, either from a terrorist or political viewpoint. If not used for publicity then what were the motives?

Also find it difficult to understand the logic of the above statement as to the origin of the weapon used. If the intention of the attack was not to claim responsibility, then why would you incriminate yourself using known devices already used by the organization/party guilty of the attack?

There was enough information released about the earlier pipe-bomb attacks for anyone to replicate them. Granted, certain specific information could have been withheld in these attacks to come to the above observation, but I would be a bit pessimistic about that.

Wonderful work from the investigation team. Who would have though that it was those pesky red shirts and their financial backer Thaksin? Keep up the good work.

Real surprising.... last time it happened was when Thaksins money was threatened. Did he not get a huge tax bill recently.

But i hope they can back their claims up because everyone will say its a setup otherwise. (Me included)

But that group already has all the power....

Or was it a rhetorical question?

The "closing in" success is proportional to the amount of the reward on offer.

They have power until the don't. The whole thing is a farce.  They can't even stage a bomb attack without looking like a bunch of idiots.

Aw come on now, don't spoil it for the Thaksin conspiracy theorists. They were getting all moist in the underpants department from the excitement of thinking up even more tenuous "proofs" that it was the Dubai Bogeyman

That would not be difficult.

I know a group that unmistakeably a lot of weapons and explosives and doesn't even hide them from the public.

They are trying to take power and control of the country on at least 28 occasions since 1932.

They have a clear history of violent attacks, think October 1976 and May 1992, and your secret has been unravelled.

Thank you for the brain exercise, and bringing this to our attention

While the army conspiracy theorists get in the mood thinking the army would bomb a room named after one of their own.

Face it without proof its all equally likely.

That narrows it down to millions of Thais - commonly known as the Sovereign People of the Kingdom of Thailand.
