Bangkok gym- help I'm bad luck

I was a member of California Wow. Now defunct. Was a member of True Fitness. Recently deceased. Are there any gyms near lower Skumvit that have enough equipment for an extensive work out? I hope the expensive Fitness First in Landmark is still open. Any others more reasonable in cost?

Thanks for your help.

There is a gym in the S31 complex Sukhumvit Soi 31. Looks like a pretty decent place and not to far from the Exchange building.

You will see it on the ground floor level, and I think it takes up more than one floor.

You should consider the outdoor "gyms" in various parks.  There is a very modest one in Benjasiri on Sukhumvit near Emporium, and a more extensive one in Lumpini.  I'm pretty sure use of the equipment in Benjasiri is free; there might be a [very nominal] charge for the one in Lumpini.  And don't expect modern equipment, it's very old school/cobbled together/seat-of-the-pants stuff...but hey, did you ever see the "equipment" those guys used to get in shape for the movie 300?  Look it up on Youtube.  The point is, you don't need "state of the art" weight equipment to get benefit from it (well, you also don't even *need* weights, just your body, but that's a whole 'nother debate!).

But the big advantage those "extremely basic" workout venues in parks have, besides being free/dirt cheap, is that, unlike virtually all big fancy gym chains in Thailand, they will NEVER CLOSE and leave you high and dry.  Anyway, just a suggestion.

The Fitness First branch at Landmark is still going strong. Not quite as flashy as newer branches like Terminal 21 (I guess that's another option?), but likely has most, if not all of the equipment you're after.

How's the Fitness First at Terminal 21, has anyone been there? How much is Fitness First?

Greetings,

I also been a member of California WOW and True Fitness!  I left True Fitness about 18 months ago, when my 3 year membership expired and joined WE Fitness!  I enjoy working out at WE Fitness since equipments are fairly new, music volume is low, gym and the restrooms are cleaned constantly.  Also, management provides free coffee and lemon infused cold water for members and fully airconditioned!

Wow that is awesome! Glad to see you like WE Fitness! What type of music do they play?! Might be good to ask them to turn it up so you get a good pump!

Nice! Great to see you haven't gone with the usual iPhone or Samsung! How much are the fees at WE Fitness!

The one at Landmark is bigger and better than T21. But they want your credit card number. Saw comments by people in similar situation where they closed account but were still charged. Also expensive, but the CC thing makes me uneasy. When you talk to a salesperson they want your phone # so can call and call you. But seemed busy.

If you open it I will join! You will definitely close.

I would never open a gym! Great to see everyone is now using "exclamation marks after every sentence!

I was a member at California Wow and lost about 8,000 baht when they shut down.

I joined True Fitness but, having learned my lesson with upfront fees, I insisted on monthly payments. I breathed a sigh of relief when they suddenly shut down last week.

I've since been using the facilities at Virgin Active in Phrom Phong.

Very nice, very new, everything works, the even provide clothing, socks and chilled towels to wipe down after a sesh.

Its big but the space isn't utilized as well as it could be.

A lot of floor space given to new-fangled aerobic-type workouts which bring more money than just a bunch of meatheads lifting heavy, I guess. Could definitely use a larger free weights area but, for the most part, it's good.

True Fitness members can use it for free until the 30th June provided they don't turn up between 5pm and 10pm Mon-Fri because a lot of their members have complained that TF refugees are packing the place out.

They don't take upfront payments as far as I'm aware.

They debit your bank account every two weeks but you still have to sign up for a fixed term contract.

I must admit, I completely forgot about the gym at S31 hotel. Much closer to me than Virgin but nothing will ever beat the 90 second saunter to True Fitness - so convenient. I'm truly gutted about its closure.

I've seen a fitness place from the Asok BTS platform, opposite T-21, in the building between Suk.14 and Ratchapidesek.  Never noticed the name.

Yes, that's a crossfit gym. Not my type of place.

I am not in the mood to give a gym my credit card number. Have seen comments that people have closed their accounts and continue to get charged.

Amazing what trifles upset people! Obviously not a meditator.

Thanks. I have to check out Virgin Active. Sounds like a great place to pick up inexperienced girls.

Yeah I'm sure you'll be the first white guy to ever hit on them; they'll be overwhelmed by the novelty
