Preecha and six NLA colleagues cleared over absence from voting

By The Nation

The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) on Friday cleared seven of its members accused of being absent from more NLA meetings than allowed, amid the possibility they could have their posts nullified.

The decision was made based on the NLA’s work procedure regulation, which was tied to the 2014 interim charter.

It said a person’s membership of the NLA would be nullified if a member failed to give his or her votes as required by the regulation.

The NLA meeting considered that the seven members, including former Army Chief General Preecha Chan-o-cha, did not breach the regulation. They missed voting because they sometimes had to perform their normal duty as state officials, it said. But no further detail was given, as the meeting was held in secret for one hour today.

The NLA also voted in favour of amending its work procedure rule, removing clauses which set out the number of times a member fails to vote that would cause membership to be nullified.

NLA vice president Surachai Liengboonlertchai said the new charter had no such requirement. Rather, it specified the number of days that they should not miss NLA meetings, or would lose their posts.

That was clear enough, and the matter did not need to be addressed in a regulation any further, Surachai said.

The issue was controversial and raised public criticism as Gen Preecha is a brother of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.

Damn, can we now assumed that the Rajabhak Park corruption, Preecha son military rank and business linked to the military, unusual generals wealth, lavish oversea trips etc will never see the light of day. Thought the coup was to rid corruption.

Have to wonder if this rule applies to MP #1. Under the Westminster system the PM is firstly an MP and expected to attend parliament.

What is MP #1?

Good rule or bad rule?

Good for the country or corruption?

Can't help but think had PTP cleared their own like this, your post would be slightly different.

To me that's pretty clear. If their own regulations don't list exemptions to the rule, simply because they were too lazy think it through and include them, or because they did not have the capacity of foresight, well then: som nam na. They were even too lazy to amend them afterwards.
Officials are always quoting the law, its importance and how everybody should abide by it's letters, but applying rules to their own, well now that's like not getting a discount in the shop you work for, right?

Corruption is only corruption when politicians are involved, when its the military it is not corruption, it is Thainess

Crony politicians like Suthep and Ahbisit too enjoy the military benevolence on corruption. Not thainess but political persecution by a bent judiciary and corruption agencies.

In other words as military officers. So there was never any expectation that they would be attending parliament sessions but every expectation to pocket MP pay. Ordinarily that would be theft of taxpayer funds. Obviously, that is not a concern for an unelected parliament who owe their positions to NCPO appointment.

So pleased that you make the distinction that parliment is for elected group of law makers. What we have now is the NLA consisting of unelected appointed rubber stampers pretending to be law makers.

Are you asserting that they haven't attended ANY parliament sessions? May I remind you that our previous PM (also an MP) only attended parliament when she was forced to do so - do you take the same attitude to her?

If there was a payment for the members/chair of the Rice Policy committee, would you suggest she be charged with theft of public funds?

Does it irk you that the "pretenders" get more done? That much more corruption has been uncovered and is being prosecuted, when Yingluk's STOP corruption couldn't find any.

Get more done or told like 'yes sir' roger out. Off course more corruption uncovered only on a particular trajectory. NACC still has a lot of corruption cases that are still "under investigation " and we know which political sides they are.

Get more done?  What, beach chairs, lottery tickets, penning songs, attitude adjustment, twerking???  Yeah great.  As for corruption, they only go after corruption when it suits them, particularly corruption in who they perceive as their political enemies, never themselves or their allies. How do you think Prayuth and his inner circle got so wealthy of a soldier's pay? But Prayuth made it very clear early on that Thais questioning his personal wealth is off limits. Meaning, ask, and you go to jail.

That's right concentrate on the frivolities, don't look at the positive aspects, it will make your sense of superiority stronger. If you look at the national park encroachment, the buddhism scams, the luxury car import scam, the G2G rice scam, the cracking down on police you might realise they would not have happened under the PTP government.

Yes Eric, and although you won't admit it, there is still plenty to find. When you a vein of gold, there's not much sense in digging elsewhere.

Yes Halloween, wake me up when the NACC decide to investigate the 7 outstanding cases of Ahbisit and Suthep.

Ah, you're a card Eric. Those would be the one's brought by Yingluk's pet pig Tarit, currently facing prosecution for abuse of office. The same Tarit the changed the definition of perjury. Go back to sleep, it's safer.
