Chon Buri police detain 37 teen road racers, impound 21 bikes

By The Nation

The Chon Buri police arrested 37 youths as it cracked down on road racers following complaints from local residents.

Police seized 21 motorcycles and a car suspected of being modified for road racing.

Acting on complaints of local residents that some youths were racing on roads, police set up checkpoints on Sukhumvit Road and Khao Larm Road in Tambon Huay Kapi of the province’s Mueang district on Friday night.

They spotted 20 motorcycles, a big bike and a car that was apparently modified for racing. Police detained 22 male teenagers and 15 female teens and contacted their parents to meet the authorities.

During the operation, a teenage girl tried to flee when she saw a checkpoint. She reversed and rode her motorcycle against the traffic and suffered a fall. She was sent to a local hospital.

Sell the impounded vehicles and fine the parents 5000 baht and give the money to Noon:

six months community service for the teens picking up trash in Bangkok.

Next case.

I am always criticising the Thai police for their extortion practices, but well done to them this time, keep up the good work RTP.

''a car modified for racing'',a few decals a spoiler and a carbon fiber hood....racing thai style...''go fast or gap bhan''...

Trust there weren't any kids belonging to the BIB or were they excused already?

Now, how about going after the loud bikes roaring down Jomtien Beach Rd. after 2 AM.

Or put in some more speed bumps to cool their jets.

Any Red Bull heirs who were released?

Can see you have given that some thought :shock1:

sure they did Something; no mention of any real penalty tho; parents show up, impounded equipment released

A rare accolade for Pattaya/Chonburi police.  I'm still trying to figure out their angle.  It surely can't be 'to serve and protect', can it?

Serve themselves more likely, but why / what is the real question.

until such time as they actually do something to those caught in th way of very severe fines and seizure of the bikes nothing will change, slapping them on the wrist does nothing to deter them. Putting their bikes into a compactor would really make them take notice and really piss off the parents hopefully enough to do something about it.
