SAMUT SAKHON: -- A crackdown on illegal road racing in Samut Sakhon province led to the detention of 190 riders and their companions early Sunday.

Samut Sakhon Governor Prapas Malakarn led the joint operations by police, soldiers, administrative officials and volunteers late Saturday night in a bid to stop road racing in the province.

At the end of the operations, 190 suspects were detained for illegally racing on public roads. All were motorcyclists or riding pillion. Of them, 36 were under 18 years old.

Samut Sakhon police chief Pol Maj-General Surapong Chai-jan said that parents of the underage suspects would be summoned to acknowledge the charges against their children.

Surapong said apart from the charges of road racing, some could be charged for modifying their vehicles without permission.

Crush the bikes. If they can afford new ones then they can be crushed in the future, if they cant then they wont be doing it again.

It's difficult to stop cos it's not like the population of riders and "companions" has any permanency; every year guys and gals drop out as they grow up (or maybe lose their bikes as suggested above), and a new generation of "dek waeng" (boy racers) and "dek sakoi" (bike babes) comes in.

so what is the penalty ? 'detained' could be 'sit down for 10 minutes, then leave'

a generation lost ,in a virtual reality video game...

Just the job for a tank. Do it right then and there - line the bikes up and drive it over the bloody lot ala Mr Bean's mini, then let the little mongrels walk home.

Do it a few times, and all you will have to do is play a recording of tank tracks to bust up a race meeting.

one of the different crackdowns that makes sense. Would make even more sense if the consequences would be harsh enough
