Smartphone cleaning apps - eg 'Clean my Android'

I am suspicious of these guys - 'Speed Cleaner' 'Clean my Android' etc.

Somehow they often manage to find over 1GB of 'junk' even after a few minutes of ordinary use. Constant notifications of phone 'running slow' etc., plus instant ads for Facebook, etc.

 

Are these bona-fide people? Is it worthwhile to use them? Or are they just conduits for junk ads?
