rooster59
Career criminal nabbed for impersonating cop "always wanted to be in law enforcement". Image: Daily News Police in Pathum Thani have announced the arrest of a man who was impersonating one of their own.Montree Reuangsamut, 51 - that's him in the black motorcycle helmet in our picture - called himself Lieutenant Gay.In reality he is a restaurant owner in Don Muang but when he put on the swanky uniform of his alter-ego and brandished his fake automatic - he became a pest for countless people in Pathum Thani. So much so that Pratunam Chula police had received calls about his extortion antics and were biding their time before pouncing. They got their chance yesterday after he tried to fleece a six wheel truck driver out of 1,500 baht on the Rangsit Road. The driver grabbed the money back and then Montree made for his gun before thinking better of it and deciding to flee.Next stop was the Esso gas station where he tried to extort money from a group of teens. But now the real cops were on to him and an arrest was made.Montree was found in possession of a lieutenant's uniform with all the right insignia, a black radio, a fake automatic and external holster, police boots and belt and a Yamaha bike with no plate. He was charged with extortion, illegal use of a radio and impersonating a police officer. The real cops discovered that "Lieutenant Gay" was a career criminal. He was arrested for extortion in 2007, auto theft and illegal use of a radio in 2011 and he further admitted to robbing a woman of 20,000 baht in another case.He said that his real job was running an a la carte food stall in Don Muang but he had always hankered after a job in law enforcement. So he bought all the gear and became "Lieutenant Gay". canuckamuck
If they are going to start arresting people for impersonating police there is going to be no one left in tight brown shirts.
ezzra
That's perfectly make sense, as many cops are in really criminals in uniforms as we have witnessed so many times over the years, and not only in this country.... Lieutenant Gay? fake or real police, I wouldn't want to be called by that name.... Edited June 23, 2017 by ezzra
Get Real
Maybe it´s time to make a crack down on the creation of fake police uniforms, instead of trying to sell a genuine jacket and longer saggier shorts to Lamyai.

AhFarangJa
I would say he is perfectly qualified for the job as a policeman.
Morch
Looks like the officer in the pic is excited about the quality of the "fake" uniforms - "Who's your tailor?!". Edited June 24, 2017 by Morch
madusa
When Stop by police could I say, "before you say anything please proof that you are a real police man or shall we go to the police station to verify". Is it ok to say that? I need to improve on my thai language to say that. Would the police be offended ? No, I need some good answer, so those expat who live here for 10 or 20 years probably know more or less the reaction of the police when spoken to like that. Please any good expat give me some clue. berybert
Love the fact he is allowed to hide his face, so that when he is back out on the street no one will have a clue what he looks like and he can carry on robbing people. Wouldn't surprise me if they give him his uniform back too.
