Thai Taxis Prevented To Enter Country To Take Passengers

JITRA, Malaysia: -- All taxis from Thailand, including motorcycles used as taxis, will no longer be allowed to enter the country to take passengers, effective Monday, said Deputy Internal Security Minister Datuk Johari Baharom.

"From Jan 1, we will enforce fully the regulations and laws on entry and exit at all checkpoints along the Malaysia-Thailand border," he said.

He also said that effective from that date, all Thai vehicles without complete documents and breaching the Road Transport Department (RTD) regulations would not be allowed into the country.

The Internal Security Ministry had also submitted a proposal to the Cabinet to review the policy allowing Thai nationals to enter the free trade zone without travel documents and permission to take passengers in the Malaysian free trade zone right up to the Bukit Kayu Hitam Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex.

Speaking to reporters here, he said the government was also urged to withdraw the permission allowing Thai vehicles to enter up to two kilometres into the country, without complete travel documents.

Johari, who is also the Kubang Pasu Member of Parliament, was here to give away 26 cattle for sacrifice to 12 Umno zones in the division, government departments and selected mosques in conjunction with Aidiladha.

Johari hoped that the incident where a group of Thai nationals had assaulted two enforcement officers from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs at the Bukit Kayu Hitam CIQ recently would not recur when checks at the border checkpoints were tightened,

He explained that enforcement of the new regulations would not affect trade relations between both countries or the Visit Malaysia Year 2007 campaign. On the other hand, the people would feel safer.

The silence on recreational cannabis is a hot topic among the country's 9,500 sales outlets, according to Weed Map. On Pattaya’s Walking Street, vendors like Khun Cherry sell Thai weed for about 100 baht (or 3 US dollars). Cherry believes future registrations might occur, but doubts the government will forsake the estimated 1 billion dollars in revenue from the cannabis industry. Thailand’s historical stance on drug laws has always been politically motivated. The 1979 Narcotics Act, which included up to 15 years of jail time, was partly a response to American servicemen and tourists smoking pot openly. Following the 2014 coup, the subsequent military government faced overcrowded prisons, prompting the decriminalisation of cannabis in 2022 and the release of thousands of inmates. Given that the 2022 decriminalisation lacked detailed legislation, the market has been largely unregulated. The current Pheu Thai-led administration, which campaigned against cannabis, now has to appease its coalition allies, particularly Anutin Charnvirakul of the Bhumjaithai party, which is the second-largest in the coalition. Anutin aims to protect his rural constituents who benefit economically from cannabis cultivation. The draft law will be discussed until the end of the month. A spokesperson for the Cannabis Future Network expressed doubt that recreational cannabis would be formally outlawed, suggesting that ganja shops might need to re-register as pharmacies or customers might sign declarations stating their medical use. It is common knowledge that Pensylvania violated the terms of their own constitustion when they illegally changed their voting laws leading up to the election. No 'proof' was required by Texas to offer in order to raise the case. Just because the courts refused to hear the case, does not mean Texas were wrong to pursue it. Many legal minds absolutely disagree that Texas did not have standing, it is just one of the many injustices related to the 2020 election farce.

      I interpreted that (you mean the TV interview with Dana Bash on Sept. 15, right?) as him griping that he puts a lot of hard work into coming up with these cockamamie stories, and that she should show some respect for that. I developed an appreciation for Bash when, after DT's first debate with Biden in 2020 the first thing out of her mouth when the debate ended was "that was a sh_t show." Oh those Jersey girls! There is another highly ridiculous aspect to this thing about applauding Ivy League graduates. The conservative media will go on into perpetuity about how US universities are incubators for the left, communist, Marxist (enter flavors of the day here), while at the same time lauding their members who have degrees from such institutions (Ted Cruz, Hawley, JD, and lots more) who they brand as scholars and true US conservatives, even as they come out with the dumbest statements to support their current deity. Also in recent years the right-wing has been denouncing education, part of their dumbing-down strategy, and looking at the MAGA numbers it seems to be working.

      "Or they would have hit the pedestrian." The pedestrian would not have crossed if the car hadn't stopped. Stopping and letting them go has a curious psychological effect where they just drop theirguard down for a few seconds, often distracted by them nodding and thanking you as they did not expect you to stop… and that's when disaster strikes. If nobody stops they just wait until the road is clear. But I agree the underlying issue is awareness-rasising and enforcement, of course.

      Or they would have hit the pedestrian. If the pedestrian ran across the road he'd have beat the bike !!!... loads of whatifery.. But... the fact remains the bike was gunning it down the road without any consideration for the safety of others. For some reason some people think Thailand is different and it shouldn't have pedestrian crossings as its lures pedestrians into a false sense of security... How about the Police and legal systems doing a proper job and luring drivers / riders into a genuine sense of road safety and consideration ??? (rhetorical)... All of that said - the guy crossing the road had very little regard for his own safety - as others have pointed out, even when crossing, have yer hid in a swivel... It astonishes me that people will cross a road on a crossing or otherwise without taking far greater caution.

      Getting back from NongKhai to BKK

      As I write I’m on a bus to Udon. Red lights are counting down from 116secs. We left the house after packing and putting the bikes safe etc. Got on her sisters Honda Wave 125i and set off for Phonphisai. Normally so far another one of her family is always tagging along because they need to go to town or last time when it was really hot her dad would let her drive the car back cause she kept pranging it. So this time I said it just us. We got to the Yamaha bike shop lights at before 17:00 where we were informed all buses to Udon were finished , Sunday. So i ended up luckily getting a big coach to NongKhai to get a mini bus to udon. It’s cutting it fine but has to do the same last time coz i missed the last bus but that was 1730. The bus from NongKhai turned out to be slow and were crawling down the NK to UD highway and have stopped once already to wait for non existent passengers. Maybe this is the time my luck has finally run out. It’s 18:37 and flight leaves 19:40 so unless we’re closer that I think I’ve got no chance. Gonna have to try and book another late flight now enroute Ok so when the slowest bus from hell/ NK arrives at the PTT station left side and it was 19:00 , flight leaves 19:40 I jump off when it stops to let off one of those girls whose wearing a back pack, you’ve seen them. I call the driver a <deleted> and ask him if he could have gone slower. He didn’t kao Jai and I walked about in a panic looking for anyone who looked like a Moto Taxi, that’s basically anyone with a motorcycle. I walk up a set of noodle stand begging for mercy then ideas. The main noodle woman appears to be summoning a taxi of some sort but after a crucial 7 mins she looks at me like what do you want to eat ? I walk away and challenge two lanky guys just getting on a Yamaha Xmax 300 as to why they couldn’t get me to the Airport for a cool 500baht. “Mee Tulah“ was the response “ busy “ … young people !!! So I walk on and see an old guy. Go to the airport 500baht ? 500 baht ? He replies. 500baht I say. Let’s go he says and we get in Suv. We go through my life story on the ride and he reveals he’s a police man which appeared correct as the security on entry to the airport stop checks saw something on his van that made them step back as he stopped and off we went we pulled up at the departure end off the drop off so couldn’t. Of asked for more. Thanks and 500baht were parted with and I ran in to the Thai lion check in Me: “ big problems “ Them: Doors on Aircraft close already sir, try Air Asia “ And looked away , our beautiful relationship now over as although i had paid the niceness was at an end early as I wasn’t going to the next step, checking in. Next to Thai lion desk is Air Asia. They must be full cos they didn’t come up in the Trip.com App, no one did. “ where you going Sir ? “ . “ Bangkok “ .” 20:30 sir “ I’m on it now and it’s 20:20. I think the moral of the story is to do exactly I did but purchase an expensive fully flexible ticket that you can cancel if you manage to get to the one you booked first. So I arrive at Don Mueang and loiter a bit. Picked up a couple of small bottles LaoKao and a 3 big beers cans from a shop in the aDon Mueang airport and get the shuttle to Swampy. Checked in my bag with the LaoKao and make my way down to the magic Food court on Level 1 and have a couple of beers and some different meals. As I’m a experienced traveller I have another check of my boarding pass for the Gate close time which says 01:15am I look at my phone and see that give me 15mins to get from level 1 to 4 up the elevator thru security check , passport out of Thailand and all the way to gate 4. Made it with 2 minutes to go. What a ฟanker. There should be more time from check in until the gate closes for you to enjoy the airport experience.
