Officials of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation on Monday seized zipline equipments from three zipline thrill ride operators in Krathu district of Phuket after finding out that their operations have encroached on forest reserve.

The fourth operator was found to have encroached on Sor Por Kor or Land Reform land.

The raid of the four zipline theme parks in Kamala forest reserve in Tambon Patong of Krathu district and in Nark Kerd forest reserve was led by the department director-general Mr Cholathit Suraswadi and witnessed by a group of local reporters.

The raiding party first conducted a field inspection if Nark Kerd forest reserve which is close to the Freedom beach.  It was earlier discovered that land certificates were issued to encroachers allegedly with the connivance of some department officials.  An investigation of the case is still under way.

The second spot raided was the zipline theme park operated by Zipline Max Company of Mr Susarun Tohparn which was found to encroach on the Kamala forest reserve.  Only five rai of the 36 rai claimed by the company were found to have Sor Kor 1 land occupation right with the rest being illegally occupied.

From the article " Mr Somchai Ninprai, a passenger van operator catering to tourists, told Thai PBS that he would receive 150 baht per head from the zipline operator if one of his passengers joined the thrill ride.  He admitted that he could get 2-3 customers on average each month. "

I'm not into ziplining, but do know it is about more than 2-3 customers a month.

That's one van operator. These fly by night operations should be avoided anyway as safety is probably not their main priority and they are probably just cheap copies of the more respected Hanuman operations.
