PATTAYA: -- Reaffirming their commitment to safety on the new Pattaya-Hua Hin ferry, Chonburi marine authorities staged a fire drill aboard one of the catamarans to simulate a real-life emergency.

Reaffirming their commitment to safety on the new Pattaya-Hua Hin ferry, Chonburi marine authorities staged a fire drill aboard one of the catamarans to simulate a real-life emergency.

The Marine Safety Control Center, Chonburi Marine Traffic Control Center and Bali Hai Pier Marine Rescue Center organized the drill aboard the Royal Passenger Liner 3 June 28.

The exercise’s mission was to simulate the rescue of 104 people aboard. The passengers were soldiers from the 14th Military Circle in Chonburi.

The simulated fire broke out in the engine room out three nautical miles off Koh Larn after the boat left Pattaya for its cross-gulf voyage. The captain put out a distress call to the marine traffic control centers at the Bali Hai and in Sriracha that the fire could not be contained.

The full article says officials warranted the exercise a success even though 5 passengers were reported missing. What would constitute a failure? Is 5 missing passengers acceptable?

You couldn't make that up

Fire drills won't help once Thai submarines start patrolling the Gulf

No need to worry about the subs, after they arrive they will spend 10 years tied up, because no money left to pay for fuel.

Further investigation showed the 5 missing passengers were "ladies" from Uzbekistan commissioned to entertain the troops before setting sail,as these were non paying guests the roll call showed them as missing, however after a brief search they were located on Beach road much to everyones relief :clap2:

.....the troops had already had their relief?

Reminds me of the Scottish heroine Grace Darling, They called her 'Amazing Grace' because she took on the entire crew of a lifeboat (I think....)

Don't worry, those 5 dead bodies will be found quick enough when they was ashore on Pattaya Beach.

Does the ferry have lifeboats for the total maximum number of passengers and crew? Do they hold drills where the crew learn to deploy lifeboats/life rafts and simulated evacuation without the assistance of the coast guard? Do they hold fire drills where they learn to combat fire aboard the ferry? Does any of the crew hold current advanced medical first aid training?

why was the 109 passenger in the water during the drill, the first place to put them during an evacuation would be in a lifeboat/life raft NEVER floating around in the sea. Try looking for an object the size of a melon in 1 meter waves let alone 109 melons, they can praise them selves lucky IF the five indeed was only "simulated missing passengers"
