Shambles in Chaingrai Immigration today

Featured Replies

ARRived at 12 40 and waited for them to arrive back from lunch which all but 1 d id together just before 12 ,, hrs

about 6 farangs went in got numer and sat down Foe about 15 minutes nothing happened and then one man in a soft voice said Computer is down and as ked every one to bring passports to the desk

Those like me who had travelledf 80k who only wanted 90 day report hand passport number  and Name written down and was given new 90 day slip

Evertbody else was told to come back again another day

No professional organisation just a shambles

Another nail in the coffin for farangs

Computers do break down, not really much CR immigration can do about that .

You should be grateful that they sorted out what you needed and didnt make you return the next day

I  wonder why those who complain remain in this, according to them, "shambles" of a place?

Are they professional moaners ?  Would anywhere in the world ever be able to meet their high expectations ?

Seriously? Maybe you prefer 3+ hour waits in a G7 country?

I jolly well hope that you showed them your displeasure, I hope that you stamped your feet on the way out, tutted loudly, so that they could hear and slammed the door  shut on the way out muttering loudly about how much money you bring into the Thai economy and they cant even afford decent computers ....and saying that you wont be going back there again

Having had almost 10 years experience with Chiang Rai Immigration, first at Mae Sai and now at Chiang Rai City.  I have found them always cordial; efficient; sometimes going out of their way to assist solving an issue that was not of their making (mea culpa) - and then compare that with the moaning/complaints/problems/line-ups and worse, found in other locations....  CM for example...

From the OP comments, I would suggest this was one of the times Chiang Rai Immigration went out of their way to help a client. Saved you another trip, eh TP?

Have I missed something here.

The OP wanted a 90 day report. The computers were down but the staff still sorted out the 90 day report for him and if you can decipher the timing on his post, all in under 40 minutes.

He is right, disgusting way to treat a Farang. He should have been made to arrive at 4 AM for a number and wait 12 hours.

As someone who missed a couple of international flights after computers when down in major airlines and had to wait 24 hours for the next I'd say that the OP got off quite lightly.

This is a world wide problem not just restricted to Thai immigration.

I love it another nail in the coffin haven't heard that one in a while

My experience is that it is a well-functioning and friendly office.

So the computer broke down.

And they still served you.

Whiners like you are a nail in their own coffin.

so you got the 90 day slip.  That doesn't sound like a bad thing.  I would of course check later that the records show you did report

You got what you came for,  but somehow it's a shambles!

OK, I think we've made our point, that Chiang Rai Immigration is a great place most of the time.

Abusing the OP further doesn't achieve much.

That will help, negatively!

It will be letting CR immigration know that their computers breaking down, just isnt acceptable .

    They need to be told

I agree.

And in fairness to the OP, only last year he was singing the praises for Chiang Rai immigration.

He has been having trouble recruiting Myanmar workers for his chicken and turkey ranch so is probably under a bit of strain.

If you had read the OP he was complaining on behalf of those told to come back another day, not himself.

Can't believe how many bending over to excuse a shambles.

If I had come from far away and was told to come back another day because their IT is rubbish I'd be extremely PO as well.

Have always found CR immigration fast, efficient and friendly. Mae Sai too generally, but CR especially. Computers down once in a blue moon? BFD. Be thankful they saw you and gave you a visa; hope you smiled and were polite, sir.

I guess the suggestion is that the 'computer down' is deliberate to encourage all farang to leave.

OP needs to get out more.

we here are so lucky to have the officers in Chiang Rai immigration. They are so helpful and polite very time I have been there .

I used to have a crush on the smiley border agent at Maesai.......don't have to go anymore, but she was pleasant and very easy on the eyes.  Just about the opposite of the card carrying butches with sideburns at the us ports.
