webfact
Thai wife jumps from 9th floor after telling German husband to wait downstairs Picture: Thai Rath PATTAYA: -- A stressed Thai woman leaped to her death at a Jomtien condo yesterday evening after telling her German husband to wait downstairs while she went to see a friend. Police and foundation medics found the distraught German - named only as Edward, 70 - beside his 48 year old wife. Parinya Duangngam had two broken legs and was lying dead in a pool of blood. She had earlier arrived at the 11 story condo and told her husband to wait downstairs while she went up to see her friend Nart Intrarat, 64. Nart said the pair talked in her 9th story room and Parinya complained of family problems and great stress. She tried to soothe her friend but while her back was turned for a moment Parinya clambered onto the balcony. She then jumped down and landed on a second floor area and was dead before medics arrived. Police are talking to "Edward" to try to get to the bottom of why his wife took her life. Nart said that the couple had lived at the condo before moving out to a nearby housing estate. hgma
is it because every suicide is reported here in Thailand or what? It seems a daily occurrence these days foreign or Thai, something to 'worry ' about or just numbers? Every human counts (alive!!) RIP

RIP In our tranquil Western society suicides are hardly ever reported. A few months ago there was a report on TV that the number of suicides in Western Europe was increasing dramatically. Classic Ray
Family incudents like this are rarely heavily reported in the West, partly out of respect for the family and partly because they are not newsworthy. Western media concentrate more in world or national issues that don't seem to interest Thais, although there is a shared interest in the salacious exploits of "celebrities" These fill the pages cheaply as no one can afford to maintain squads of investigative journalists, especially when the press are restricted as they are in many parts of Asia so can't produce anything anyway. BangkokReady
Sad that she could not share it with her husband and try and find a solution. I wonder if the firm belief in Buddhism and reincarnation makes suicide an easy option to some Thais. Leave you problems behind, see you in the next life. Has it occurred to others that the lack of respect for a person's life - your own and others' - might well be a contributing factor the increasing suicide rate? How about the Arab states? Rip. I guess this a terrible shock to her husband, poor chap.
gk10002000
complained of family problems. This always rings to me because I have seen first hand many ladies pressured a ton by their friends and families to get more money from the falang husband. The lowest four, 179 to 183 were all in the Caribbean.
observer90210
Requiescat in pace to the lady... I feel sorry for the elderly husband, as he will now bear the suffering and the mental distress of the tragedy. Hope he is in good hands and gets all the clinical evaluation and therapy that is necessary on suffering such a trauma.
