CityNews – In celebration of HM King Rama X Birthday, the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation has announced that all Thai citizens (vehicle included) will get free admission to all national parks on July 28th.

CityNews was not able to confirm whether this free admission extends to foreigners who hold non-immigrant visas and/or work permits.

Yes yes yes i totally agree with you. In their stupid minds they just dont get it. All non thai embassys should not give visas until they drop this abuse

it is only 50 baht anyway for thais.so they are generous when the farlang pays ten times the price

the part i like the best is when the thai price is in thai, so the farang cant read it; implies they are ashamed of the practice trying to hide it

Posted

If Thais get in free then don't they have to double the 10 times falang price to make up for the lose? 20 times is a nice round number!

If it is the "Thai" price, for Thai people, why would they write it in any language other than Thai ??

Here is probably one of Australias biggest and famous national parks, and guess what, "its free for locals" and overseas visitors pay

http://www.kakadunationalparkaustralia.com/Park_Fees.htm

The fee (which is inclusive of GST) will apply to all interstate and international visitors aged 16 years and over. Kakadu and Uluru park pass prices - July 2016

All Northern Territory residents and children under 16 will be exempt.

Maybe its because they have Thai and non Thai customers.

Lots of Thai restaurants that only have Thai customers only have the menu printed in Thai, or is that a conspiracy as well, lol

Yes the menu descriptions are often only Thai but the price is hardly ever written in Thai script
Same at the local wet markets or mom and pop shops hardly ever a price in Thai script
There is no doubt in my mind that when there is price in Thai script and price in English script
99% of the time the price in English is more and Thai script used as a way to disguise the difference.

Because Thais almost always use 'Western' numerals now, not Thai. So it is a deliberate and cynical ploy to prevent foreigners knowing that they are being cheated,

Any foreigner that can read "Thai Price" written in Thai script could probably read the Thai numerals as well

Fees apply to all interstate and international visitors 16 and over..... while northern territory residents under 16 are exempt

assumedly, from this wording, interstate and international visitors under 16 are also exempt

not denying any existence of dual pricing... it happens... indigenous Australians get a free ride almost anywhere, and then there's the discounts for seniors cards and other concession holders, but these are all generally well gazetted

if gazetted, then it's OK, but when not, it's wrong. ( or when totally disproportionate)

if it said all australians i would agree , the parks mentioned are huge and are owned and run by native australians of which make up a large proportion of the northern territory. a state that has a relatively small population at that. the add says that northern territory residents are allowed free entry not the entire population of australia. kakadu is 20.000 sq kilometres

You have misquoted me, my original post says residents "and" under 16 are exempt.

My first paragraph isn't a quotation, it's a simplification of the written policy, in an attempt to demonstrate that the policy only seems to say that only under 16's will be exempt, from wherever they come from.

however.... I did not give the correct weight to the word "and" (within the NP policy), which makes my earlier assessment incorrect ?

Free or not, they can shove it!  I wouldn't go to another national park on principle.

am betting you have experienced the 'double menu trick' in restaurants; white skins get the menu in english that has much higher prices than the thai version; thais try to legitimize that by saying 'your portions are bigger';

i  cringe whenever i see an english menu;

one time, when the bill prices didnt match the menu prices, the restauranteur said 'that was the old menu' !:saai:;

am sure it was because i paid, however my thai wife did the checking...

Yep even at one I had been to many times before...suddenly a menu in English with inflated prices...I asked for the "normal" menu ,both had prices in English numerals.
No apologies no explanation just a sheepish laugh and big grin.

Enjoy your day at the park, I will enjoy my day as I will not be paying 10x to get it as i am off to the beach and the wife will do all our buying as its cheaper that way.

For the same reason as 99% of numbers, prices and dates that are written in Thailand are written in roman numerals and not Thai script?

How often do you see prices in thai numerals?

I live in the middle of nowhere. In 8 years I have never seen a farang at the nearby market.

Yet all the prices are in european numerals.

The more a country is backward, the more they are racist.

This pic is from Nepal.

Nepalese free, Asians (incl Japanese & Singaporians and yes, my Thai wife) pay, Europeans pay more.

Well at least they where up front about the multiple prices and didnt try to hide it with obscure sanskrit numerals.

Thailand, the hub of sneakyness.
