Pensioner makes history in sprint

Tony Bowman, a 71-year-old former Leeds Rugby League winger, became the oldest winner to lift the famous 110m New Year Sprint at Musselburgh on Saturday.

Middlesex-born Bowman, the evens favourite, clocked 12.12secs off a 28.5m start to scoop the £4,000 prize.

Bowman, who lives in Guiseley, Leeds, said: "I never dreamt I'd even qualify for today and winning the sprint is fantastic. I won four races on Friday."

Walter Hunter, 67, from Falkirk, finished a gallant runner-up in 12.24.

Unquote.

I felt better after reading all the serious stuff that,s currently being debated.

Stay Coolllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll and lighten up a bit, i did. :D:o

Only in Britain would you run 110 meters instead of 100. :o Nice story though.

Actually Meadish 110m is near as dammit 100 yards which would

have been a normal sprint race distance in the UK in the not too

distant past.

Bet he bought himself a pint with pounds shillings and pence after

the race.

...errrrr, back to school for a refresher course in maths!

When I was last there ( which was a long, long time ago) 110m = 120 yards. On the other hand, 100m = 110 yards (approx).
