Daily News reported on the arrest of a Burmese man who they said was making an easy living in Thailand selling fake passports.

A sting was set up by the cops who paid 12,000 baht up front and 2,000 more to come to Rayu Kumarn Matsee who was arrested in Soi Jaransanitwong 12 yesterday.

Taken into evidence after his lodgings were searched were four fake Indian passports and two for Canada.

Police said that Rayu first came to Thailand in 2006 and liked what he saw - he married a Thai lady and they had a daughter but in 2011 he was deported.

In 2012 he sneaked back to see his family by crossing the border at Mae Sot in Tak province and had soon got to know several big fake passport gangs mostly run by Pakistanis in Thailand.

He got stolen passports from a Pakistani man called "Johnny" for 4,000 baht a time then put his customer's picture in them so they could live in Thailand.

Most of his clients were illegal residents who needed documents - he worked mostly with Indians residing in Samut Prakarn and tourists staying in Khao San Road and Pratunam, said police.

Yesterday Rayu was paraded for the press despite the ban on showing suspects at police stations, notes Thaivisa.

But . . . I never read anywhere that being a passport forger or vendor was a job that was prohibited for foreigners?!?!?!?!?  Foreigners just can't catch a break in Thailand.  :whistling:

I like the Canadian passport as well, mostly because I have one, but legitimately. Each time criminals like this forge one it makes the genuine ones less credible Grrr. annoying to put it mildly. Have to say the one Rayu d...head holds up doesn't look real. Reminds me of the old ones issued twenty years ago.
