Nakhon Phanom governor Somchai Witdamrong has instructed officials to speed up surveys of 11 flooded districts in the province so they can be declared disaster zones.

The disaster zone declaration will allow the provincial administration to bypass the central government in obtaining funds from the emergency budget to help affected people.

On Monday Somchai said 11 out of the 12 districts in Nakhon Phanom have been hit by floods.

He said it is estimated that the province was hit with 400 million cubic metres of floodwater and 200 million cubic metres had to be drained as the province’s Nong Han Lake could handle only handle 200 million cubic metres.

Well, well. as i repeat my words the Government repeat theirs. I mean how many years have they said the flooding issues are fixed and will not occur again?. Nevertheless there are drought 4 month a year and flood 2 month a year, in every scenario there is relief money paid, well sort of but of course most of these funds are not even reaching the affected. It just goes down the drain as you might say. Billions of THB are paid relief funds, but if these money was well spend there would be 10+ more water reservoirs in Thailand now and both solved the drought by proper irrigation systems as well as the flooding would be minimized. I'm not an expert in this but neither seems to be the case in the those who make decisions in Thailand.
