The Department of Special Investigation is investigating to verify reports that Phra Dhammajayo, the former abbot of Wat Phra Dhammakaya in Pathum Thani, has fled to Europe, DSI director-general Paisit Wongmuang said on Wednesday (Aug 2).

Pol Col Paisit said that, according to the reports from several agencies both inside the country and abroad, Phra Dhammajayo had fled from Thailand to a country in Europe.

The reports also said that the monk, with help from his disciples, slipped out of the country through a natural border crossing in an undisclosed border area.

However, checks with the Immigration Police Bureau revealed that the elusive monk was not found to have left the country through any of the country’s official checkpoints.

why do people feel it is so surprising that people here can get out of this place ? i live on the thai edge of the mekong; we can get across in 5 minutes for 30 baht; we know people on both sides and can get anywhere, do anything; NO ISSUES

From day one, the junta did everything to allow him to escape as they knew full well any action they took would rally his supporters against them. Typical junta tactic of threats, abuse of power and trying to force people to flee then being able to call them "fugitives".

They wanted Yinluck to do the same but she foiled their plan. Just watch it back fire on Prayuth and his conspirators..

Maybe he just walked across the Mekong when no one was looking. Some people said that besides walking on water he has other special powers like making himself invisible.

sounds very logical; if the trouble-makers are abroad, then they both will not make trouble here And the govt here wont have to deal with them or their supporters

I'm sure Interpol will request he calls in for a meeting with them, whenever he has time to spare ! (Thai style).

Quite possible, but it would not be for attitude adjustment.

Problem is most of the trouble makers arent abroad. They are either running the country or friends of those, or donators to them.

if its true lets hope they arrest all those that helped him escape, its bullsh*t when people help  these criminals, any monks involved should be kicked out and tossed in jail, non monks should be fined heavily and locked up as well. Time to grow some balls Thailand and actually stick to the law with everyone
