Resort bulldozed after land rights revoked

By The Nation

TRANG: -- Some 100 troops, forestry officials, police and Interior Ministry officials used bulldozers to demolish the remaining resort buildings at a beach in Trang’s Sikao district on Thursday morning.

The officials moved in to check 11 plots of land of 73 rai (11.7 hectares) in order to remove remaining buildings in response to a court order.

The courts previously revoked land-holding documents related to Nor Sor 3 Kor after they were found to have been bought by investors in order to build resorts. Nor Sor 3 Kor land is required to be held by poor farmers who are not allowed to resell it.

One operation, Chang Lang Resort, was owned by a former local politician. The resort was built on 16 rai of land on two plots under Nor Sor 3 Kor documents, since revoked by the court.

Officials put up a sign on May 9 for the resort owner to remove all belongings. Most of the resort housed had been removed. Bulldozers on Thursday removed the remaining wreckage, which included workers’ living quarters, the resort office, and some resort houses.

Someone at Nation needs to learn about land papers. There's nothing wrong with building on NorSor3 Kor land.

"Nor Sor 3 Kor land is required to be held by poor farmers who are not allowed to resell it."

That would be SorPorKor land, NOT NS3K.

What you say is generally the case but we have looked at buying NS3K land here but were advised by the local municipal office that the government could take it back without compensation. Apparently the deeds were issued with a brown envelope payment, and the land affected covers a big area.
