How can a Falang get a Thai Captain/Skipper License

Does anyone know of a service to assist me in getting my Thai Captain/Skippers Ticket (license) and Thai Engine Operator Ticket?

I am purchasing a 15m yacht (registered in Thailand) with some friends and we are told that we need to have 3 crew on board that are licensed under Thai law and that one must have a Thai Captain Ticket and the other a Thai Engine Operator Ticket.

I know that it is possible to take the test (only available in Thai) in Phuket, but I live in Pattaya/Chonburi and would like something possibly closer.

Also, I heard a rumor that you get take the test in Chang Mai (not sure why there) but I will need a Thai translator (who is hopefully themselves a Captain/Skipper.

Any help direction or contacts would be most appreciated.

Yes it is overkill. However it is specified on the Boat License that a crew of 3, comprised of at least one person holding both a Thai Captain Ticket and a Thai Engine Operator Ticket plus 2 additional crew. I am not sure if the 2 other crew need any specifications or just that the yacht must always be maned by at least 3 people.

One person said that when you buy a yacht you become the captain. But that is not true according to the broker that is handling the sale.

Well, if it's like getting a Drivers License, you'll need to take a written test and a driving test. After you fail either one sit down and look sad. Someone will come over and sit down next to you. They will ask what happened and you tell them you failed. They will feel sorry for you and say, "I have a friend" and then whisper 1000 baht in your ear. That afternoon you'll pick up your license. I'm sure it's the same on your boating license, but the costs will be higher. Good Luck!
