One of MIL's fears when she learned her daughter (a) got a foreigner boyfriend and (b) leaving for India in a few days, was that said foreigner might sell her daughter for prostitution. Nearly cracked a rib laughing, but turns out it's somewhat of an "everyone knows" thing.

 

Don't know about Thai prostitutes in India, but many of the Indian guys who learned I was living in Thailand had a lively imagination as to what this implied. Going to Thailand solo, or with friends was a very popular notion. Much less so with girlfriends and wives.

 

Finding it odd that the girls mentioned in the OP had that kind of money on them. Doesn't exactly sound like how these things work all over the world. Wonder if they all had their papers and travel documents as well, many times "employers" hold on to these. Think there was another topic where someone mentioned a woman in his village doing the rounds in Sri Lanka, but that might be a different scene.

 

Years ago, in Mumbai, had a night to kill. Joined a foreign photographer for a taxi ride down to the city's so-called red light zone. Coupled with India's (and Mumbai's) squalor the whole thing was both depressing and surreal. Especially a part called "the cages", which was a basically a street where prostitutes were sitting at windows and balconies, all crudely barred. A touch post-apocalyptic.

I`ve mentioned this on other threads and for those who have not seen this may find it interesting.

 

My girlfriend knows of a 31 year old Thai woman from her village in Chiang Mai who leads two separate lifestyles. The respectable single mother and then there is her other lifestyle, so totally different that her 2 worlds could never meet.

 

She stays in Thailand for 1 month, and then she flies off to Colombo in Sri Lanka and once there commutes between the Maldives, Colombo and Kandy Sri Lanka where she becomes a hardcore prostitute for another month. So has 2 identities, the respectable doting mother of a 2 year old baby and then a hard-core sex worker Thai prostitute working in Sri Lanka.

 

How it works: Thai people are visa exempt if they travel as tourists by plane to Sri Lanka for no more than 30 days. The fare money direct form Chiang Mai to Sri Lanka is not expensive, only 8000 baht return and probably only a two and a half hour to 3 hour journey. There is an illegal agency operating on a social networking site that sets these girls up with jobs in massage and spa parlours that are all fronts for brothels in Sri Lanka or in illegal sex bars. The girls are in Sri Lanka on a 30 day visa exempt stay as tourists but are actually there working as prostitutes illegally. The Sri Lanka government turns a blind eye to it because it’s good for the tourist trade.

 

It`s not only Thai girls, but also Chinese and Russian girls are highly sort after in South Asia, mostly working under cover in massage and spa parlours and as escorts. Indians expect a lot for their rupees. They want the most debauched types of sex possible and providing the price is right there are many Thai, Chinese and Russian girls willing to accommodate them. Easy to check this out online.

 

Thai women going abroad to work as prostitutes is as old as the hills. During the early 1980s, the UK was a popular destination for female Thai sex workers. It was very easy for them to go as English language students, many set up with corrupt language school owners whereas they were enrolled on the courses but never actually attended any of the schools. As the UK rules tightened up. then 10 years ago Australia became fair game for obtaining education visas. Once there they paid for marriages of convenience that is still going on today. 

 

Regarding being sex slaves, many of these women are clued up and organised and aim for the richer clientele at the big 5 star hotels. They actually work the circuits of visa exempt countries and have connections in high places.

It sounds like you are familiar with the 'real deal' and I am fully in agreement with you.............But If I may pass on just a bit of 'Food For Thought'..........

Over the years I have heard of Thai Police and Gov't using their own people and 'foreign volunteers' to monitor chat sites like ThaiVisa and Facebook to learn what the Farangs know........... For that reason, and it seems a TV Moderator pointed it out to somebody a few years back that it is only helping the Police if we give them specific locations of some illegal operations (Such as name of bar or street corners, even a specific Soi). So in offering some of my personal experience in posts I try to be vague in what area I have seen something 'interesting' happening...............

I just want to pass this on for your consideration............

You must admit that the 'cops' could learn a lot from some of us........... And TV is full of helpful posts..............

It`s not quite like that. If some Thai women are young, 18 to 25 years old and score a 7 out of 10 for looks, they will only service tourists and wealthy business men staying at the most expensive hotels. Their clients will be mostly western, south east Asian businessmen and visitors. If they do go with Indian men, these will be of the higher classes and not any of the locals.

 

Thai women who are between 18 and 25 years of age and are 10 out of 10 lookers can earn from 500000 baht a month, some even over a million baht per month. They will charge 20000 baht a session and will have no problems obtaining those amounts. By only servicing 2 clients a day, that`s 1.2 million baht month. Out of that amount they have to pay the agency fees, the hotel owners and middle people that all expect a slice of the cake, but they will still earn multiple times then what they can earn in Thailand.

in many parts of India. Ride the trains in India, take a taxi in India, walk the streets in India and visit some

of the massage parlours there, then comment on just how nice these Thai women are being treated.

  If you cannot or will not do research,  then do not try to say that the Thai women are having a great

life over there. It is actually a living hell..

Ah, this Reuters article is typical non-fact-based "anti sex work" ranting 101.  "Women become sex workers (which, btw, is NOT the same thing as "becoming sex slaves") because of poverty."  So by that logic, all women in Thailand below a certain poverty level must be sex workers.  And of course they're not.  There are MANY factors which contribute to the choice of sex work as a means to earn a living, not simply "poverty."  These kinds of articles, filled with the words of rescue industry shills, always try to paint things so black and white, and push people's outrage buttons.

There are different faces to India. What most tourists and visitors see is one thing, then there are also extreme high and low ends. I'm not saying prostitution is great, or that Thai women engaging in such over there are treated well. Just that it isn't "a living hell" for all. If it applies for Indians, then it applies for others.

born and raised in that country.  Especially the Thai women who thought they were going to

be domestic labour and ended up as prostitutes working as massage ladies.  I know as I

did meet a few in that position in the past.

As said, no direct knowledge about Thai prostitutes in India, but based on how things are for other foreign women engaging in the same, and posts as appeared previously on this topic - it's hardly the same deal for all. That there are women who were lured, tricked or whatever into such circumstances if indeed a fact. Just that they do not represent all the spectrum when it comes to Thai sex workers in India. I also don't know that the differences between being in this situation in India or other countries are extreme. Guess it's bad regardless of location.

Over my time in Thailand I have witnessed and seen young Thai women drawn into prostitution mostly by greed and the thought of making easy money. Women that have worked in stores, banks, insurance companies and even those with mediocre jobs who were getting by and not on the poverty line.

 

Either in their social circles or at their work places they meet up with other women who tell them, "why do you want to work at these types of jobs earning low wages and working long hours? I have a friend who is earning xxxxx bahts a month, in Thailand or abroad " And that`s how it begins.

 

With many the temptations of high incomes, foreign travel and living the good life with money in their pockets including helping their families overrides the repulsive side of being sex workers. To them it`s just business and their bodies become their work places. The main problems these women have is that they begin to relish in the good life and the more money they earn, the more they spend. Unless they are clever and good planners, that most are not, then by the time they reach middle age, usually with one or two kids in tow and physically used up, they will end up with nothing and mentally damaged.

 

I believe the perils of this kind of lifestyle should be taught to girls at the schools from an early age. Prevention is better than cure.

i agree especially the real stearsunners who will be on escort books and also sell themselves personally

on facebook, thai friendly, and from fashionable clubs in bangkok, but my quite uumm 'extensive' knowledge is of the basic pattaya scene, over the last 13 years

 

the best ive known was a very popular gal who used to work in the Jomtien area, she gave a fantastic service and had countless

returnees for a few years before she retired and opened her own massage place, has two condos, a farang buddy of mine who helped her with her money said she was earning 600,000 a year,  very good income for a basic massage parlour gal, also as an aside

her popularity was based on reports on the forums, well the more 'informative' ones.

 

of course the top drawer gogo gals can and do earn a lot from those same men you mention + an excited more typical farang tourist  who decides to blow a wad of cash on 'something spectacular' ! if they can get hold of her, !
