Officers to face house searches

Police will today search the houses of suspects thought to be linked to the New Year's Eve bombings, including homes of several senior military officers in Bangkok and Lop Buri. A highly-placed source said the searches would focus on houses belonging to military officers ranging from colonels to generals suspected of involvement in a series of bomb blasts in Bangkok and neighbouring Nonthaburi province on Dec 31.

Different sides leaking information/misinformation/disinformation. Not surprising in th current climete and obviously confusing. However, hopefully we will find out more in the coming days as whoever did this deserves severe punishment.

Police's reports on Bangkok bombs to be sent to PM, CNS soon

Army commander and Council for National Security chairman Sonthi Boonyaratglin said Friday police's conclusion over the bomb attacks on New Year's Eve would reach the prime minister and himself in the next few days.

He said the CNS was now having a parallel investigation into the matter and would compared its own scrutiny into the matter with the police's version.

Both military and police intelligence services had not yet clear information whether who masterminded or carried out the eight bomb attacks, but the police's and the CNS' conclusions would provide further and clearer details about those people's identities, he added.

It is reassuring that the authorities appear to be moving towards a conclusion on those responsible for the New Year's Eve bombings.Hopefully apprehension of the culprits will follow shortly. For my own part though I had my suspicions (security force elements that had lost out in post coup placements), it seemed impossible to identify with any certainty any one of a number of groups that might have been involved.I am and remain genuinely stumped.

Others on this forum have been less equivocal and specifically have accused Thaksin of being directly responsible.Possibly, though it doesn't seem to make much sense, they are correct. In any event we will soon know when the police and CNS investigations are concluded.Hopefully they won't contradict each other! But now it's time for a prediction on the admittedly purely hypothetical basis that the bombings will be found to be the work of JI, the regional Islamic terror network or elements connected with the Southern insurgency, the -how to put it -less cerebral of the obsessive anti-Thaksin posting pals will speculate that our late PM has developed an alliance with Islamic terrorists to weaken the junta's hold.Let's see.Anyway my money's still on disgruntled police/army elements.
