PATTANI: -- Suspected Muslim insurgents early Thursday detonated a car bomb in front of a row of townhouses which are the official residences of police staffing Pattani’s Mayo Police Station.

No one was killed or injured in the bomb attack, as police spotted the vehicle while it was being parked at 4am.

The official residences are just 10 metres from the police station.

The explosion partially damaged the houses.

Officers on duty told the pickup truck driver to move the vehicle away while he was parking it in front of the townhouses behind the police station. But the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled before the explosion occurred.

The pickup was among six pickups robbed from a used-car tent in Songkhla’s Nathawee district on Wednesday.

Police said four of the six pickups had been found and one was used to launch the attack in Mayo district on Thursday morning. Police are still looking for another stolen pickup.

Certainly since the Junta installed themselves there appears to have been a dramatic increase in these terrible attacks.
