Just back from the motor show in BKK and the wife is falling for the Vespa (nice yellow matt) special edition - but the 132k price tag is huge, any experience quality and reliabilty wise with Vespa in Thailand? is the premium of about 50k over e.g. the NMax satisfied ?

Is there may a place to rent current Vespa models in Pattaya to get a better impression?

Thank you and best regards,

This year we bought a new Yamaha Filano and a virtually new Vespa GTS 125 abs and there was a huge price difference. During the early part of the year we did two long trips on the Filano, the Mae Hon Song Loop and a 3 day tour of Nan province as well as the usual shopping and other trips, all in Thailand. On the Vespa, well we bought it in the UK and rode it much of the way to central Portugal a long 4 day trip, since then we have done 3off 2-3day trips in Portugal, plus a daily trip to town of 20km round trip, along twistie roads. I great start to the day.

My verdict, the Filano "does the job" and is great value for money at 52k baht, but the Vespa, while expensive is worth every penny, it is just such a nice place to be. It is plenty fast enough for what it is and the extra weight of the bike helps the ride and handling, without ruining the performance. It looks really nice and sounds great, as anything Italian should. If you don't get the Italian v Japanese comparison in that respect, well you never will and you probably think bikes are just just about statistics.

Now, I am talking about an Italian built Vespa........ and mine is fan-bloody-tastic. I will really miss it when I come back to Thailand for the winter.
