Where did he get the money I wonder...

Pretty obvious where the money comes from with uncle being ~43 years in the Thai military.

It's usually called tit for tat.

But quite seriously, what does this episode say about the discernment and knowledge of top brass like Preecha. A year's investment in an officer totally wasted  because he had no desire for the career. And a senior officer, knowing this, recommended and enabled his commision.

A well-known reporter covering the military, Wassana Nanuam, wrote that Patipat never actually wanted to be a soldier and was heavily scrutinized while in the service.

“It is widely known Lt. Pong didn’t wanted to be a soldier in the first place,” she wrote Sunday. “But his parents wanted him to be like his father, so he did it for them.”

Since he served for less than the time a conscript has to (two years) presumably he is now liable to be drafted for the balance "owed" so to speak...

Ducking out of military service is nothing new for the protege's of the privileged as Prince Edward of the UK Royal firm did 30 yrs ago when he wanted out of his service with the Royal Marines to pursue a la'de'da career .. Bet it went down well in the P' clan though when Lt ( 2nd ) Pong said he wanted out to pursue a degree in England of all places .. Nothing available in China .? Though he would do well to get hiself a new nickname before getting on the plane to London unless he wants to return Thailand emotionally scarred .. And i trust the UK Immigration troops will give his visa application the sort of grilling they usually carry out on anyone from Thailand's application ..

Luckily the kid has a rich father and uncle who have had extremely well paid jobs with the the Thai military for decades and can afford to sponsor his dream of becoming a....whatever.

I'm sure flag officers in other parts of the world must envy their Thai colleagues who are all rich, seemingly without exception.

NB. This is of course not at all even slightly suspicious and clearly not worthy of scrutiny, even if such should be allowed! Luckily these fine men of impeccable integrity have come to Thailand's rescue about 20 times and counting. Keep up the good work!

Maybe you are not familiar with the English saying tit for tat. ...

Tit for tat is an English saying meaning "equivalent retaliation".

The UK's trash is allowed to inhabit Thailand so no reason Thai trash can't hang out over there.

Being English I think I know but maybe you missed the joke ok not a problem

As for trash The UK has enough which they are only to happy to send this way and as for more trash being sent there well yes if they have money I expect some get in but find life a lot harder as they have real police over there who know how to do there job I think.

Little Britain, just have to smile when those less fortunate who cannot get a visa start up. Just remind me which country invented most of the worlds most used items and which country as contributed nothing but corruption, lies and deception .

I doubt he'll have more dough than the bright young Russians , Chinese , Arabs etc residing in UK now .. As for class he's gotta go some to upstage the English in that category .. I mean have you seen the lengths they'll go to just to eat ..

Can an military officer just quit? The only way to quit is a discharge or psychologically unable to perform military duties. This is making a mockery of the RTA when serviceman can join and then just quit like working in a 7-11 outlet.  Why he got this privilege treatment? Rhetorical question.

Depends on the law and rules in a particular country. In the UK armed forces, officers can resign their commission. I think they can in the US too.

Not the same rules for other ranks.

If he was an officer, he would have to serve for a specific period of time. He may of course resign his commission but as far as I know, it is a long resignation process and good reasons must be given and undergo a long review process. Any officer in any countries have undergone training and any resignation are taken seriously. However I think all he did was just tell his dad the day before that he is quitting and got an immediate approval. The RTA is a sick joke.

Indeed .. Though there's none of that fine table ware where we come from and to be honest being even-toe'd ungulates we would probably struggle to use it ..
