PHUKET:-- The Bang Khu Underpass at the north end of bypass road, which was to be completed by the end of August, is delaying its official opening to the end of September, Phuket Highways Project Engineer Somkiet Yimpong said today (Aug 23).

“The only work remaining before it is complete is some final aesthetic works such as artistic decorations, painting, planting trees around it and so on,” said Mr Somkiet.

“Right now the underpass is 90% complete. After these final works the underpass will be officially opened by the end of next month, in September,” he added.

Its funny thing is how they copy Western societies with artworks and other strange objects around the tunnel.

Only in Europe we pay an artist millions to design and make it, here the construction people just build something with leftover material.

Like so many projects here, the schedules and numbers just don't add up.

The statements: "The project is 90% complete" and “The only work remaining before it is complete is some final aesthetic works such as artistic decorations, painting, planting trees around it and so on..."  seem to be out of sync. The implication is that 10% of the entire project timeline is dedicated to aesthetics, which I highly doubt. Suggesting that the final 10% can be completed in one month's time would imply that the entire project should have been completed in less than one year, start to finish. He should have just left it at "The tunnel is expected to be opened by the end of next month".

Sorry for being pedantic (it's the engineer in me), but these people continue to lose all credibility with statements like this.
