China says nothing will stop its long-range air force drills

BEIJING (Reuters) - No amount of interference or shadowing of its aircraft will stop the Chinese air force from carrying out long-range drills, the defence ministry said, announcing another round of exercises of the type that have unnerved Taiwan and Japan.

The air force carried out further long-range exercises on Thursday, the ministry said late that same day, without giving details of where they happened.

Such "normal" drills accord with international law and practices and are part of an "ordinary need" to raise combat abilities and strengthen the military, it added.

"No matter what obstructions are encountered, the Chinese air force will carry on as before; no matter who flies with us, the Chinese air force will fly a lot and as normal!" the ministry added, citing an air force spokesman.

Drills over the past few months have mostly focussed on flying near self-ruled Taiwan, claimed by China as its own, and by Japan's southern island chain to the north of Taiwan.

Taiwan's military said earlier this month it was on a high state of alert following three straight days of drills by the Chinese air force near it.

China has been increasingly asserting itself in territorial disputes in the South and East China Seas. It is also worried about Taiwan, run by a government China fears is intent on independence.

Beijing has never ruled out the use of force to bring proudly democratic Taiwan under its control, and has warned that any moves towards formal independence could prompt an armed response.

China is in the midst of an ambitious military modernisation programme that includes building aircraft carriers and developing stealth fighters to give it the ability to project power far from its shores.

Taiwan is well armed with mostly U.S. weaponry, but has been pressing Washington to sell it more high-tech equipment to better deter China.

How about you stop stealing/claiming other countries islands and claiming all of the south china seas and stick to "INTERNATIONAL LAW for freedom of passage/navigation"....  etc: Quote: Such "normal" drills accord with international law and practices and are part of an "ordinary need" to raise combat abilities and strengthen the military, it added.

China always say one thing, do something complete different and always expect other countries to roll over and do what is best for China.

At least with the US there is some sort of transparency and accountability.

The world will be a different place when China start to show their military will power around the world.

"International law for freedom of passage/navigation".

Look, a vast number of ships carrying cargo pass through the South China Sea, and not one of those ships has been stopped by Beijing. Nobody can name a single cargo ship that was stopped when entering the South China Sea. Do you realise that ?

3. Why?

I for one is very happy the way the world is now. With all it flaws it could be MUCH MUCH worse. My generation have largely been spared the cannon fodder demise many young men faced during WW I & II.

Instead they broke all the promises made to the European leaders and blatantly expanded their influences. They are directly responsible for the most of the current global conflicts; Power corrupts and... Shame on them!

If you dig just a little below the surface, I think you'll find that America got roped into cleaning up a lot of the messes left behind by centuries of Euro colonial adventurism when the Euro's bankrupted each other with yet another incestuous war between the ruling families and had to give up their colonies in a hurry.  A huge responsibility at which America sucked.  But they weren't the root of the problems.

Edit:  It's perfectly understandable to be upset if the body shop doesn't get the paint to match, and leaves a few wavy spots in the fender.  But they're not the ones that ran the car into the tree.

It  could   also  be  better. The  cannon  fodder  of WW1  & WW2   were  led  to   believe in  that ! Instead    it  has  been   continued  in the  shadows  !

Now now, laws and regulations and resolutions are only referred to when they are in China's favour.  This is a country to be wary of.

Off-topic posts removed.   The thread is not about the US.   It is Japan and Taiwan that are referenced in the OP.   Continue and suspensions will be given.   Enough with the trolling.
