BANGKOK — An Australian mining company on Monday denied it has settled with the military government a year after the junta leader used his absolute power to abruptly shut down its operations.

Kingsgate Consolidated Ltd. denied media reports it has agreed to take 30 billion baht compensation for losses incurred by Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha’s decision to abruptly shutter the mine. Company representatives said they are still negotiating possible remedies with the government, while critics said Prayuth should be responsible for such a massive outlay from the public coffers.

Maybe Prayith should have himself charged with dereliction of duty.  Better still, just making stupid, uneducated and rash decisions.

I'll even help him flee the barracks walls.

Such a blot on the landscape for a few ounces of gold. The Aussie company that shouldn't be here in the first place, should be sent packing, after they have cleaned up their mess, and compensated the locals for poisoning the environment.

you mean the company that bought in the expertise and machinery that wasnt available here?

the one that paid licenses and ongoing royalties?

the one that had a large quota of local employees all earning far higher wages than standard?

the one that couldnt fire said locals when they would not adhere to safe practices and caused many problens

including the environmental ones?

the company that was then stripped of its license without compensation?

Yeah they are to blame for it all, of course, well if you dont know anything about it it is.

The latest statement from Kingsgate was that the Thailand government has lifted suspension of the mine and will renew their Metallurgical Processing License which expired 31 Dec 2016.

Clearly a rash and arbitrary decision of Prayut to use 44 to close down the mine to win some popularity sympathy that now gone sour and now backfired. Why should the public pay for this man ego trip. When 44 is lifted with the new elected government, I hope they will charge him and seize his assets. That will be karma.
