Syphilis Test Mandatory For Wp?

Recommended Posts

I am in a rush for my WP application. Now all of a sudden they require a syphilis test. How to get it, prferrebly without the real test...?

PM me please.

PS: I am sure not to have but I do not like the hassle for the test.

OP- go to any hospital and tell them that you want a medical exam for a work permit. The doctor on duty can do it immediately and cheaply.

And I'll not ask why you'd preferably NOT do the real test. :o

I'd like to know the reason for this too....

Sounds to me like your employer or someone is either pulling your leg or trying to slow you down for some reason. Never heard of this before- if we suddenly hear a bunch of people talking about it, then it might be true- but I seriously doubt it. That's what the whole health check is supposed to be for. It would make more sense to require a mandatory TB test.

When my friend applied for his retirement visa 2 years ago (overseas), he said that his doctor had to sign off that he did not have Stage3 syphillis...

I’m afraid your post is off topic. We are talking about the medical certificate for a work permit here.

From Sunbelt Legal website:

Work Permit Requirements:

Required Documentation from the individual

The following documents must be attached to a Work Permit application:

A recent medical certificate from a first-class licensed physician in Thailand stating that the applicant is not of unsound mind and not suffering from leprosy, acute tuberculosis, elephantiasis, narcotic addition or habitual alcoholism.

From Kitti Law Office

QUALIFICATIONS OF AN APPLICATION

1. Having residence in the Kingdom or having permission to stay in the Kingdom temporaily under lmmigration law (only NON-IMMIGRANT VISA is acceptable).

2. Having the knowledge and/or skills to perform the work as stated in the application for a work permit.

3. Not being insane or mentally sick, suffering from leprosy, tuberculosis, drug addiction, alcoholism, and elephantitus.

4. Never having been imprisoned for violation of the lmmigration Law or the Working of Alien Act at least one year prior to the date of application

However the Kitti Law site also shows this which may suggest flexibility in what they require. But as others mentioned, it was not requested of me but doesn't preclude a change in labour department requirements or even individual offices.

Medical certificate showing that the applicant does not suffer from prohibited diseases, as idseases, as identified by the law. (issued within the last six months).

Since 5. March the Syphilis test seems to be mandatory for any WP!!!

The ordinary certificate I got already!

Anybody knows more about it?

Ladies and Gents,

Today I was asked to get a health certificate for my new work permit. I was told to make sure that the form on which the doctor makes his declaration, does now contain certification against SIX diseases, including syphilis.

The secretary gave me the form which states the requirements, in Thai and in English. Both are available from the link below.

The link that takes you to the Office of Foreign Workers Administration and to the PDF file with these requirements in Thai and English.

http://115.31.137.7/workpermit/main/wp/form/Form_tt2.pdf

This is the new requirement since March 2009.

Most web-sites mentioned in this topic have not updated these latest requirements.

Hope this helps.

Very helpful indeed. I had been trying to locate a document that outlined the requirements on the Labor Department site with no luck. Thanks for the update.

BTW: The direct link to the pdf file is here > Form_tt2.pdf

It's a 5.37 MB file and still waiting for it to load on my slow connection to verify the information.

I have not heard of such a test being required,

just the cert from the Dr saying you are free of all the listed illnesses,

which usually takes 5 minutes to issue.

If they do require a blood test it should be quick and cheap, so I would not worry.

I removed your last post Frm-BKK since the link was still incorrect. The link I supplied above does work and I have read the document, specifically this on page 15:

3. Not being insane or mentally sick, suffering from leprosy, tuberculosis, drug addiction, alcoholism, elephantitus and syphilis.

//edit - the downloaded form is timestamped March 26, 2009

I notice at the top of page 15 that this is for Teacher/Trainer work permit application. Is this test a demand solely for teacher/trainers or is it across the board for any work permit application?

Page 2, item 3 shows the same requirements.

There should be no test involved other than normal blood pressure/temp/observation. It is the same list that was used for retirement. You see doctor and he will interview/observe and a few minutes later he signs the certificate I would expect. Cost 50 baht to about 500 baht depending where you have done. There has never been any blood tests required for certificate.

There has never been any blood tests required for certificate.

Regulations say yes but experience says no. :o

Actually, for the last 4 years renewing my WP no one was interested in a medical certificate, neither Immigration or Labor department. They take my papers and promptly hand back the envelope with my medical certificate in it without looking at it. The last two years I didn't even get one to bring, waste of time and money it seems for me if they don't want it.

http://115.31.137.7/workpermit/main/wp/form/Form_tt2.pdf

gives the conditions for the work permit.

Page2 gives the english.

It contains a condition that the work permit certification requires the medical certificate to state among other things that the applicant does not suffer from alcholilism.

If this is applied correctly how much will it affect people here.

There is no real test for any of the conditions on the med cert - just 30bt and your passport at my clinic and you get the med cert filled by the doctor. I've used several doctors who fill out the form without even examining you.

What about some of the other things on the list.

3. Not being insane or mentally sick, suffering from leprosy, tuberculosis, drug addiction, alcoholism, elephantitus and syphilis.

The ones I have made bold are not included in the normal medical check either.

Maybe I should say not relevant to the topic:P

However yes it is stupidity but it is stupidity we have to live with. Thugh personally Ithik a few less drug addicts and alchaholics may improve Thailand let alone considering that just geting rid of them may help as it would at the same time get rid of many of the first of these categories. :)
