Foreigner Apologises For Catching Parrotfish Off Southern Island
2long replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Professional globetrotting spearfisherman or not, if he truly is someone who travels and catches fish, he should have known that there are places (usually beautiful tourist places) where fishing is forbidden! For him to reach his self-acclaimed status of prospearfishery, he really can't claim he didn't know better. But, as others have posted... it isn't as if he's been murdering children, and there are more-important things in the news and the world. -
Condo Owner Fined Over 140,000 Baht For Keeping A Pet In The Unit
2long replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
From the article "all kinds of animals, such as those that create a nuisance and frighten people" So, how about geckos? The article doesn't mention what pet the person had, or their nationality. This is strange. And as for having to "pay a fine of 141,500 baht to the juristic person", well does that me the juristic person gets to do what he/she likes with all that cash? Seems like a job I'd like to apply for. -
I have to admit that I do not feel 100% in the right. But nor can I see this lady as being either 100% right or wrong. I've ridden bikes for more than 40 years and more than 20 here in Bangkok, so I'm not a beginner. Also, this lady wasn't the only one racing up the inside of the traffic, as there was one a bit before her, and (as I found out) one more behind her. And at the end of the day no damage or injuries occurred, so it's no big deal. But the fact that she was berating me (and I'd hazard a guess I was riding bikes before she was born) did touch a bit of a nerve on the day. But from my personal experience, undertaking on single lane roads is just asking for trouble, regardless of the legalities. Quite often when I'm trying to pass slower vehicles on the right-hand side (in the middle of the road) Thai riders try to make quicker progress than me by undertaking. 9 times out of 10 I'm ahead of them by the time the road opens up. So, undertaking is not only dangerous and possibly illegal, it often isn't any quicker. ????????

Parrotfish are not an introduced or invasive species and therefore them eating the hard corals (like cute turtles may do) is nature. And this was in a national marine park. The guy is a fool, and more of a fool for posting it on social. He will get his punishment... and I read elsewhere the boat crew/captain will get punished as well.

They are required to, by law, here in Thailand now. This includes greater Bangkok. But a month or so ago there was a modification to places like Pathum Thani, allowing for drivers and passengers to negotiate (no meter). I think that tourists will always get ripped off here, but once 'you know how to do it' it's usually quite painless.

Tourism ministry to propose zoning for night spots to operate up to 4am
2long replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Covid used to come out at 9pm, and now it comes out at 11pm... unless in these special areas in which case it doesn't come out until 4am. What time of night will monkeypox come out? -
90 days report online - a sad experience
2long replied to Lorry's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I used to have problems, but in 2022 it was ok. Try your phone (not pc) or try another browser if you're limited in the number of devices. It MIGHT be due to them no longer having TM6 forms. I came in a month ago and am (not) looking forward to doing it in October. Good luck and please let us know if/when you succeed. -
Thanks but not the case. It was a regular one-lane road that was barely wide enough for one car or SUV in each lane/direction. The traffic against me was almost stopped. The lady on the scooter was overtaking on the left side of the traffic, in the gutter and where a sidewalk/pavement would normally be. It was not a case of two lanes in the same direction.

Thanks.. and I don't know. My daughter said it was a lovebird.

The trouble is, it's pretty much impossible to see what's coming up the inside of an SUV in such a tight and narrow space without at least sticking my front wheel past the corner of the SUV, which is what I did. I'm certainly not claiming to be in the right, but nor am I taking all the blame. It's not really 'lane splitting' because there is only one lane travelling in each direction. It's undertaking, past a market carpark.

I was just riding my motorbike along a single-carriageway road, and I needed to turn right, across the oncoming traffic into my local Kerry Express. The oncoming traffic had pretty much stopped, and an SUV had completely stopped, leaving a gap for me to go through. I'm pretty sure they actually let me across in front of them, as it appeared to be one of my neighbours. Of course, in the UK we flash our lights to give others way, but in Thailand they just sit there and do nothing, or wave their hands behind dark-tinted windows. Anyway, I went across in front of the SUV and I was within about 3 metres of my destination and parking spot in front of Kerry. However, overtaking on the inside/left side of the SUV and other slow-moving cars was a lady on a scooter. She was making all kinds of noises (from her mouth) before and after the very small collision between the front of her front tyre and the side of mine. She continued on her way shaking her head and making similar noises. No damage, and no injuries. We didn't need to exchange opinions or anything else. We both continued our journeys. 22 years ago I was once doing exactly what she did (pass/undertake on the left of traffic) and a car turned left into a soi, causing me to crash. Since then I have (almost) never passed on the inside, as it's just dangerous. I also feel that it's important to consider why the traffic is slow or stopped when over or undertaking it, and I try to be aware of things like this. Would you guys and gals say this is a 50/50, or that she or I am in the wrong? For example if there had been damage or injury, this would need to be decided. Thanks in advance. Stay safe! ????

There are many people on planet earth who don't deserve to be, and many of them deserve to have their lives ended with some pain. Many women (and men) suffer abuse at the hands of others, and in SOME cases I would justify this kind pf payback. However, if society starts to get on this lady's side, then where do we draw the line? We all know that there are plenty of crazy women here who feel hard done by for the silliest little things. Where does one draw the line in what deserves payback or not? None of us were there when the alleged abuse took place, and I'd bet none of us were there when this shooting happened. So the best we can do is speculate.

Zebra crossing death: RTP and doctor killing cop sued for 72 million baht
2long replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
I think I read somewhere that they calculated how much salary she would earn as a qualified doctor until she retired. Either way, you cant put a price on your own daughter's life. This is very sad, but I feel they deserve every penny, just to highlight the dangers of the road, and hopefully ???????????????? deter others in the future from being such retards on the road.- 9 replies

Amazing Thailand indeed! Whatever you do, don not blame or deal with the issues at hand, such as jealousy, bad behaviour, societal problems, maybe alcohol or something 'realistic.' Blame spirits in a termite mound! ???????????????? It's just like crazy things being blamed for road traffic accidents, and so many other things in this fine land. ????

Going Back to UK with Passport(2 months left).
2long replied to Neeranam's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
She will be fine in both directions, but a Thai passport can be got almost same day in BKK. My daughter's UK passport took 11 weeks to get, also in BKK. Do NOT apply for the UK one, because she will not be able to travel on the old one from the day she applies for a renewal. Don't forget it's international/UK summer hols, so things might take at least 11 weeks. -

Typical Thai bullying. I do not for one minute believe that all 23 kids damaged the door. But this is what Thai teachers do. They punish all the kids (not always bad) but the innocent kids are too scared to dob their classmates in. Let's face it, the kid/kids who smashed the door might be happy to hurt another kid. It's such a shame that CCTV hasn't been invented yet, or is too expensive to install and use..... oh hang on a minute!
