You've obviously been in the tropics too long and haven't heard of microsleeps. Here, I'll let Dr Karl explain it for you... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MdOhcmkI0dw -
Onward Ticket Question
Lemsta69 replied to leosmith's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I was responding to oldcpu's question about what would happen if you flew in visa exempt and an IO asked for an onward ticket and you didn't have one. I'm guessing he means as a normal flyer, not a "visa abuser". As you know, the conventional wisdom is that it is unlikely to happen so we don't see too many reports about what transpires. Or if there have been then I can't recall. Perhaps your memory is better than mine. PS. I'll post what I want if it's not in violation of forum rules. You're not a mod so there's nothing you can do about that! 😹 -
Onward Ticket Question
Lemsta69 replied to leosmith's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I don't know as it's never happened to me and I can't dredge up any memories of old posts on the subject. Maybe they'll let you book a ticket out on your phone and accept it without a physical printout. Or maybe they don't like the look of you and it's off to the back room for the third degree. No onward ticket, no proof of funds and it's a day or so in lockup until you get sent back where you came from, or wherever you can negotiate a ticket to. -
I've already mentioned that that doesn't faze me. I won't get refused service at the pub because of it, so it's no skin off my nose.

I'm simply telling you my experiences. I've never had a Thai motorcycist almost crash into me because he was looking back to talk with his mate whilst coming around a corner at speed. Thankfully he corrected at the last second. He was able to look back and give me a "what?" look when I shouted at him so maybe he is really a good rider after all. I've never had a Thai motorcycist almost barrel into me because he's squeezed himself into a narrow gap between a stopped songthaew and an adjacent building then gunned it as soon as he squeezed through. Right past the door to the 7-Eleven that I was just coming out of. I've never had a Thai motorcycist almost clip me with his wing mirrors because he was hugging the left side of the lane in Soi Buakhao and not slowing or deviating off his line like the Thais do. For the most part, Thai riders and drivers in those over-trafficked Sois don't faze me and I rarely feel threatened. Notable exceptions are SUVs with Bangkok plates. But when I see a foreigner coming towards me on a motorcycle then I start praying to the old Gods and the new that I'll survive the encounter. You can call that "anti-farang" or irritational or whatever you want, it doesn't really worry me. I'm quite happy with my blanket disdain for foreign motorists 😅

Well it's not just young folk, a lot of older fellas are just as bad. That's OK if they would just stick to their football hooligan bars so you can avoid them, it's when they get out and about on their donor cycles that it becomes a problem. Unfortunately there's little you can do about it except keep your eyes peeled when walking about the place, and your "jai yen yen" turned all the way up to 11. There's no point tangling with those hoodlums unless you have connections in City Hall and very deep pockets 🤣

Onward Ticket Question

Many reports on here of people being asked for onward ticket/proof funds. Replace "never" with "unlikely" and you might be closer to the mark. -
Onward Ticket Question
Lemsta69 replied to leosmith's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Bro, there's a new thread about this every other week. It's a subject that's been done to death. The airline is required to check that you meet the requirements to enter the destination country. If they don't, and you get denied entry then they are responsible for repatriating you and they can cop a fine of up to $10,000. In practice it depends on the airport and the individual check-in staff. You might get asked, you might not. YMMV as the Americans say. Are we clear now? -
Crazy biker maneuvers or habits you see in Thailand
Lemsta69 replied to scubascuba3's topic in Motorcycles in Thailand
Well I'm not an alpha male, nor do I want to be one. But calling posturing heteo motorcyclists gay is just childish. Oh, and an insult to gay bikers 😅 -
We're talking about Pattaya Richard, not greater Thailand. I love the place but one of its many shortcomings is the concentration of aggressive foreigners on motorbikes. When I walk down Soi Buakhao and other busy narrow streets I don't pick up bad vibes from Thai drivers/riders. It's the foreigners, especially farang, that are a problem. If you've never been there and experienced it yourself then there's no point continuing the discussion. If you've been there, experienced it for yourself but think there's nothing untoward about it, then there's also no point continuing the discussion.

Foreigners on motorcycles in Pattaya are a menace. I was almost hit three times on my return there in December 2021, and none of those near misses were my fault, I was just walking along Soi Buakhao & Soi Lengkee as is normal for that area. No sidewalk so you hug the buildings and hope for the best. I won't go into the details because it seems you're taking any criticism of foreign motorcyclists too personally, like you did the last time we conversed on this subject. I like Pattaya but rarely visit now that I live in Bangkok. When I do visit that's the main thing that irks me, the foreign idiots on bikes. Not because I'm jealous or hate motorcycles, because they're idiots. Dangerous idiots.

No more Non O Spouse multiple entry?
Lemsta69 replied to RotBenz8888's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Recent reports have mentioned that the Multiple option is no longer available via the thaievisa website. London have confirmed via email to one BM that they are not currently issuing them. //Edit by Maestro: rephrased incomprehensible part of the post. -
Sounds like he wants to apply for the non-O in-country instead of going to a nearby consulate. When doing that you need a couple of weeks left on your permission to stay because there is an under consideration period. In the post you attached, the OP has stated that he arrived visa exempt and has extended once already. Presumably he's close to the end of his 30-day extension so he'll need to do a border bounce to get another 30 days, which will give him sufficient time to apply for the non-O using form TM.86 or TM 87. I forget which, will look it up later. He doesn't say where he'll be applying but if on the off chance it is Jomtien then the OP should be aware that that office requires funds to have come from abroad AND to have been seasoned for two months on prior to the date of application.

I'm not the OP! The only place I'm travelling to in the next few days is the pub.
