Putin Proposes UN-Led Administration in Ukraine Amid Ongoing Conflict
gamb00ler replied to Social Media's topic in World News
On what basis do you say "the constitution is suspended"? It is more likely that Ukraine's constitution states that national elections are suspended when martial law is in effect (under the rules contained in the constitution). I'm a betting man... I'll wager you have not read Ukraine's constitution... neither have I. My guess is a much more reasonable one than yours. -

Trump wants to be seen as a king and be seen as making king-like proclamations. He cares naught about any consequences. -
Thai wife being taxed on her US SS
gamb00ler replied to jlm53's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Perhaps the Thai TRD worker does not understand the difference between a government pension and Social Security. If you visit the TRD office again, take the SSA-1099 for your wife's benefits to prove that her payments come from US Social Security Administration. -
Thai wife being taxed on her US SS
gamb00ler replied to jlm53's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
The thread title refers to you wife's SS benefits but your post is referencing Article 21 which deals with pensions paid to government employees. If indeed her pension is NOT paid for past employment by a US government agency/department but for other work that is covered by Social Security, it would be covered by Article 20 paragraph 2... not by Article 21. There is no distinction in the US-Thai tax treaty Article 20 depending on citizenship of the SS recipients. If your wife is receiving both a government pension and Social Security, then the portion earned from work covered by a government pension would be taxable in Thailand, but the portion from SS would not. Note: recent US federal law was changed so that former governmental employees are no long penalized by SSA through benefit reduction due to Government Pension Offset (effective Jan. 1, 2024). US-Thai treaty Article 20 paragraph 2: 2. Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraph 1, social security benefits and other similar public pensions paid by a Contracting State to a resident of the other Contracting State or a citizen of the United States shall be taxable only in the first-mentioned State. Article 21 paragraph 2: 2. a) Any pension paid by, or out of funds created by, a Contracting State or political subdivision or a local authority thereof to an individual in respect of services rendered to that State or subdivision or authority shall be taxable only in that State. b) However, such pension shall be taxable only in the other Contracting State if the individual is a resident of, and a national of, that other State. -

Are you ready for smartphones to become obselete?

I can understand that you have no concept of how an individual can protect their data. But, it is not difficult for those with technical skills. Most data breaches are due to social engineering such as phishing and spoofing. -
Trump managed to become President without reading a book since the 60's. Does that count as winning?

Are you ready for smartphones to become obselete?
gamb00ler replied to Jingthing's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
A lost laptop is a much greater security exposure than a lost (up to date) phone. A phone can do a lot more than a laptop in many situations. Can your laptop automatically execute a procedure when you take it to a specific location? The hoop jumping required to accomplish that on a laptop becomes complicated. -

I doubt that a direct connections to the brain's optical processing areas will be developed in the near future. We will be stuck with carrying around some form of screen for decades. Conceivably almost all processing could be moved off your personal device to centralized servers. AI prediction and data caching could be used to reduce response time. The reduced hardware requirements would result in smaller and cheaper devices but a more expensive infrastructure. You would still call it a smartphone. -
I think it was in this YouTube video by a former SSA manager that stated you are allowed to have two addresses on your SSA record. One for residence and one as a mailing address. That was news to me. I have no idea if that YouTuber is accurate. I don't really care for his content that much and his presentation is mediocre at best. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WemXdHIcSsA That is the wrong link....it's in this video by the same guy: https://www.youtube.com/live/9h6VptUea90?si=nvAXEiZcf6i7-8gS

due to the decisions made to spend little on public transportation systems..... thank you GOP. -
Of course whataboutism is still alive and well and dwells forever on the right. You may as well harken back to the witch trials, punishment of Christians in the Roman colosseum and the Spanish Inquisition. Government and societal leader's treatment and respect of others has slowly been improving over the eons. Of course there have been fits and starts. Have you not been doing your homework?

You haven't been paying attention, have you? Pretty much all the major economies have seen tremendous drop in the percentage of their GDP contributed by manufacturing of goods. Services are the new gold. In 1947 manufacturing was about 48% of US's GDP.... in 2023 that figure is now 10%. Even Japan and Germany have seen significant shifts to services from manufacturing. Despite those two countries instituting many policies attempting to stem that shift, they failed. -
